Ceramic Coating Factory Headers

I'm wondering, Since both my factory pieces are cracked. And aftermarked pieces don't really do much in the way of performance. If I were to remove them and have them fixed, Would ceramic coating reduce the chance of them cracking again? Since I know that coating them keeps the surface temps down. Would this also mean that less heat is absorbed by them, therefore reducing the thermal stress on them that causes the dreaded header cracks? Just a Thought.......

No!!! They will look better but any time you subject mild steel tubing to this wide of temp. changes ( 1600---to what ever the outside air is ) it is going to crack. There are ways to weld them to help. Where #5 goes into the main runner, weld a gusset in there. This will greatly help in this area. Good Luck

Yes, I've seen people who've had the guesset welded in. I had mine welded (no gusseting though) by a member on the digest. I then had them coated in Jet-Hot's 2000* black coating. Two years later they're still holding up great.

My Jet Hot 2000 coated headers have not cracked either after two seasons BUT, they look like crap. After the first season they started developing rust spots all over, particularly on the flanges. Jet Hot denies it is there product and claims these are mineral deposits from the air condensating on my headers. I'm not buying that excuse, because stains do not blister from under the coating. To their defense, the coating has done it's job and the under hood temps are down. HTH Brian

Thanks for the replies guys. Keep em comming! It seems like the way I may go, I figure it would prob only cost half as much as getting a set of aftermarket pipes.

I would definately check out Swaincoatings. They are thicker and a lot more durable. Jet Hot is mostly cosmetic.
