Once again I come to dip my cup in the well of knowledge!:D Is there any way to change the part-throttle shift points? The trans makes the 1-2 shift at 15-18 mph and makes the 2-3 almost immediatly after. It then makes the 3-4 at 45ish. I rebuilt the trans 3yrs ago with CK shift kit, servo, governor, good band, 10 vane pump, etc. Valve body code is BR3, factory TV cable goemetry, car has 8.5 rearend with 3.73 gears. The trans works great, the only problem I have is the shift calibration. It has done this since day 1, I can live with it if its a big hassle to correct. Thanks.

Yes, tightening the cable makes it hang in all the gears especially 4th gear. Any other ideas?

The govenor you are using is too heavy on primary side(thicker one) and was probably originally used with 2.56-3.08 gear in donor car. Go to local trans shop and get a few differently weighted 200-4R govenors, change out primary side first, will take a few pan drops to get it right, this is assuming you've already verified proper line pressures. Good luck.

It one of CK govenors, Id really rather not hack on it. How much should I remove and will this change WOT shift points. I wouldnt mind another 400 rpm before upshifts. What about the black gov spring Chris has started include in his shift kits. My kit didnt include it the last shift kit I installed did.

By chance are you using a Holley carb?, if you are, do you have the linkage in proper geometry?, there is a TV cable adapter that screws to Holley throttle lever to allow proper cable travel for use on GM vehicles.
If you have TV cable hooked to stock Holley "kickdown" pin/tab on linkage you will experience incorrect throttle cable action because centerline of KD tab to throttle shaft is shorter than TV tab.

No, it a Edelbrock Q-jet. I tranfered the throttle arm from the factory Q-jet to the E-brock Q-jet. Basically I duplicated the factory geometry. Line pressure is almost exacrly the same with the tv cable at min and with it unhooked. Max TV pressures are exactly where they should be as per CK book.

Q-jet is good, well, if pressures are correct and TV adjustment is right, I would think changing the primary side weight of govenor would be way to go, if Chris suggests a MTV upshift valve spring or other change, I'd go with his recommendations first. Good luck.

I used the spring twice and in both instances it made all the shifts earlier. I landed up removing it and putting the OE back in. Shift points were back to normal after this. You can get replacement springs from TCI via summit.

Stonger spring should raise gov pressure faster and defeat line pressure sooner and give sooner up shifts..if I understand the theory correctly.

Since you are using CK stuff, call him and see what he recommends.

There's been some changes in CK's kit in the last 3 years,so I'd call CK and order the parts to get it current(plate is a must..IMO).

Makes the 1-2 at 4800, 2-3 at 4900. What changes have been made? Im happy with his kit with the exception of the early 3rd gear.

I doubt the kit is causing an early 2-3. I just used one in a customers car with a KC and it shifts at 6100 with his loose converter using a BR governor and part throttle is excellent with easy kick downs.

You could try a different 2-3 shift vale spring but that would raise the WOT shift too.

Ok who has a 2-3 spring and how much will it raise the shift?

Again you should call Chris,he will have what you need and you stand a much better chance of getting it right the 1st time.
