I had a quick question about connecting rods. I was wondering if the big end of a non-Stage rod is the same diameter as a Stage rod. Is there any difference in fitment between the two? For instance, will a Sage rod work with a stock crank in a stock block? Of course rod length and the piston compression height will have to be matched up to work. Thanks

Buick even fire cranks pretty much follow the same rules, regardless of the block they're in.
2.5" main journals, and 2.25" rod journals.

Things can and often do get a little fancy with the stg II build ups however. They usually use steel cranks and sometimes things in the rod area get changed a great deal to try and "cram" as much crank and rod into the block as possible

Thanks Dave. Good thing you posted the big end diameter to refresh my memory because the rods I was looking at have a 2.1" diameter. The guy is advertising them as a Buick V6 rod though. I looked back at my notes and they too said 2.25" for a Buick crank so I am not sure how I got stuck on the 2.1" Isn't a SBC a 2.1" diameter? Maybe that was it. Thanks again.

Erik,

There are plenty of "exotic" Buick cranks out there that have been cut for Chebby rods. Those rods are much cheaper and easier to obtain. Of course the cost thing can be offset by the labor to make the rods work...but that isn't necessary on an On-Center motor. Just be careful and do your research before you rush into buying internals.
