My coolant smells like gas :-( band new motor arp head studs i reused cometic HG . I used copper spray when I put them back on . Please don't say it's the head gaskets . I really don't want to pull it again . It runs great up to 15lbs of boost after that it starts poping and buckin like a wild horse .

Whatever is causing the popping and bucking likely popped a gasket if you let it happen too much.

or

Who installed the head studs? Were their theads sealed?????

I installed the studs and did put sealer on them all . I'm hopeing I didn't blow a gasket

Sounds like you might have more problems than a head gasket. Not sealing the studs won't put gas in cooling system. It will wick coolant up the threads into the crankcase though

Yes, cometics are metal head gaskets that are reusable, lots of info available with a search.

Umm, I think Chuck knows that, not the option I would take if not thrashing at the racetrack, too damn much work to pull a head.

Metal or not... Reusing a head gasket on a hi $$ engine is not what I'd do. I don't need a search to make that a "no no" in any engine build in my shop. [We did reuse the solid coppers on our T/F engine............In 1960!]:D

A used hg is about as reliable as a used rubber....o_O

Did you ever find out what caused the heads to pop the first time and are your sure it was completely fixed?
