Anybody have experience with this kit? Better prices from someone else than jack? This is not a slam on Jack. This is about money!

Mitch

Sometimes saving a few bucks in the short run does nothing for the hobby of a un appreciated vehicle. Spend the money with Jack you will not be sorry. If it is about money go to an SBC. My harley was cheaper than my Buick, I still own the Buick and the Harley is gone. Sorry to be a butt - head but owning a Buick nothing here is about saving money. The few vendors there are I support as much as possible, they help to ensure we will be able to enjoy our rides for a long time to come, try that with Summit or JEGS.

when all is said and done what will u really save? 30 bucks? buy it from someone who will get you the right stuff the first time and will take the time to explain things...any of the vendors on this board will tell you that there is very little profit to be made on these cam kits

X2...your best bets are either "piecemealing" it together, like I have done and taking a risk with used parts...or flatlanderracing.com is another site...but you won't be saving THAT much...if much of anything at all....I would much rather support the vendors on this site.....

Make sure to double check kits being complete.
There was a thread a while back with Cottons and a member having
a miscommunication about pushrods not included in the price.
You will need new pushrods when going roller and depending on your head
and rocker configuration there are a few different sizes.

Such a true statement,we do not have that many vendors that we can afford to pi$$ any off.

Otto-

You are exactly right. Complete does not mean totally complete in this case. i talked to jack himself by email and he already told me that the pushrods are not included. that does not mean I will not go with cottons kit, just another thing to buy when the other vendors kits include pushrods for less money. i have dealt with jack for years and he has always been straight with me. In fact i bought his first production F/M intercooler which had
4 piece pipes. Still in my car!

Mitch

Give him a call, ive got a few smokin deals from Jack just from chatting him up on the phone. He's super helpful and a great vendor to deal withas most guys know around here know.

I would give Dan at DLS a call. As far as I know Jacks cams aren't setting any kind of records and Dan actually builds his motors.

Just my opinion.

I purchased mine from Dan @ DLS which cost me $900.00 plus for the kit,but the kit doesn't come with the pushrods,as far as the pushrods i think i payed an extra $100.00 bucks

Word of advice...buy all your stuff for a project from the same vendor. That way you will get the right stuff and it will fit/work/whatever. I buy all my new stuff from Jack...he treats me right, gives me a decent price, and answers ALL my questions! You cannot beat that!!!!!

How can you be sure you are getting the best cam for your combo when his cams are not out setting the bar in the field? I'd put my faith in a vendor/engine builder who knows his cams and his cams are out there in the field setting records. Does Jack get his cams from Bobby at RPE or Dan and resale them?

Id be more concerned about the tune on the car than where he got the cam. Jason White went about 145mph with an off the shelf hyd grind. A cam by itself isnt going to do chit for power increases. It takes a lot more than that to make it work. My advise to anyone not sure is to stay really small on the cam. You better have a good torque converter and be willing to throw some balls at it if you want to make a lot of power.
Another thing that should be mentioned is that some guys like me like to know what is going in my engine whether its off the shelf or custom lobes and LS. The way guys like DLS and RPE or any body else concerned with extracting maximum power figured out the cam profiling and install was through trial and error. From this point on ill be ordering my own grinds and LS. I know enough about the subject to do so with good results. If you can minimize backpressure then you can get a lot wilder on the cam and really pick up a lot of power. Not goign to happen if you heads up Buick racing though. You will always deal with the backpressure issue in those instances.

I'll try to make this brief, as I do have a life and a business to go to today.. Once again, here I am feeling like I have to defend myself from the likes of Ted A, who after all these years still finds it necessary to follow me around this board and attack me, my business, my product and anything else he can do to hurt me. I guess it's ok, to allow this kind of unnecessary behavior here, it is a way of life for some.

Here is a thread about the price of cams, yet Ted finds it necessary to plug invalid performance numbers from a completely different situation. Brian said it well, it takes a lot more than the cam to produce performance. Are we talking about a cam that "sets records" here or not. What does Mitch's combo have to do with Tony Gomes running a 7 in a TSO trim car? Nothing, not a dam thing. What does me supplying a customer with a cam for a street car, have to do with whether my cam is an RPE grind cam for a 7 second car? Nothing again. Do ya want RPE's number to call for a cam grind.... here ya go 860-953-1342... call him.. ask for Bobby.

We build street cars at my shop, that is my focus. Do we race, absolutely... when we can. Do we deal with "fast" cars, for sure, always have. Because my focus is not on TSO, TSM, or whatever someone elses fancy may be.... does not make our product any less for Mitch or anyone else. On the contrary, we sell what we have found to be the best product for our customer for his application. Based on our actual use under the driving conditions requested. Pretty simple formulas.

Changing your screeen name here Ted, (S2V6RACER) not made a differance in your BS posts here, still the same old TED, talkin the same old BS... helping no one in this thread..... it's sad. My lack of participation here is directly based on the few guys like you that find it necessary to dog me on this board. So once again, I will go back to my own Bulletin Board where this kind of negative behavior is not tolerated. After Christmas, my banner will no longer run here. Hope you are happy now. Supporting the Buick community has always been formost in my way of doing business. Sorry Shane and Jay and all the rest of the good members here, but I can not justify coming to this board any longer as an advertiser with this kind of behavior being tolerated by the same few guys for more years than I care to think about. Our Christmas specials and future info will be posted there.

Mr.Cotton never let the actions or opinions of one or a group influence business decisions. I see a lot of people stumble in here and get directed to your shop or your site. As a member here I feel obligated to try to buy from
the supporting vendors. A little bit from them all. As far as things being posted both good and bad it is an open forum and no vendor will ever be above some posted B.S. true or not. I am sure it gets old but it does not out weigh the business side.

Reputations overtime speak for themselves.

I dont know Jack just know of him & he is right. WTF does a 7-8 sec car combo have to do with a 12 sec driver?? Two different animals completely.
As for the pushrods Everyone should get an adjustable pushrod measuring tool from Comp for $12 & measure there own to see whats needed. Then order what you need fom a vendor or custom length from Smith Brothers etc. Probably why they aren't included in most kits.

As I said in PM I will say here, I don't blame you Jack...

It is sad that a good vendor has been made to feel this way. Jack has always supported this community. NO VENDOR is perfect...

Thanks Jack for your many years of supporting TurboBuick.com!

We keep losing board sponsors because of this type of crap... The Vendor section will be trimmed alot after Jan 1. I just hope we can keep the board going through all of this...
