Could The Car Run Better with Alky Off?

I have been trying to Tune my car, I had it out before, it is a great night 72 degrees low humidity... A guy a trust said try running the car with Alky shut down, but high Octane.. I also bumped up the 6466 from 19 psi to lets say low 20's.. I have been running leaded 114 now.. Car ran pretty insane, could not hold the 295 M/T drag radials down... Has never felt so strong!! Should I keep the Alky off?

Well from what I understand leaded gas will wreck your cat and o2 sensor and seeing how these cars were not ment to run on leaded I would assume running unleaded and alky would prob be better for the car regardless of how quick it is without

I would guess your tune was off with the alky. Do you have a log with the alky?

Why were you only running 19 psi before? Low 20s is no problem with alky. I would bet the increase you are feeling is mostly the boost increase.

well u don't understand good ! 116 will live with my 02 sensor for well over 5k miles ? ID say he he doesn't know how to tune for alky lol ...what do I know Ive only been 10.90's with alky on a stock long block? im not a tuner either rant the # with just a scanmaster

I have a few more goodies to put RJC Mega Front Mount/ Jason also made a custom 5inch Down Pipe that I just got and looks insane 3.5 ls1 Gen 2 MAF then if still running well off to the dyno with Brian... and lets see if his predications are right....

Straight high octane has more potential than just about anything else that's easy to get. It however won't make more power than other fuels unless the tune and engine are run at a level to take as advantage. It's not just about more timing. You may need more timing to maintain the same cylinder pressure but mass flow is what is going to make the power. Increased CR, better heads, higher operating rpm.

I never understood why anyone would need a 5" downpipe.

I disagree on waste of money. The bigger pipe will allow the heat to travel out of the engine bay faster and more efficient. This will help with heat soaking engine bay componets possibly even slic's.

As for the other topic, I have never had any luck with alky on my motor. I'd like to rig up an octane on demand setup with a separate fuel cell with 110oct plumbed to the rail. Once a set psi is reached the pump will activate supplying the rail with high test while I can still maintain driving it around town on pump gas. This will eleviate me having to drain the stock tank before I go to the strip also. This type of fuel system will work great on a setup like mine because excess fuel on the rail does not return to the tank as my fule system is stock ford returnless fuel system.

Just remember that if you have the alky off, you do have an alky chip, the motor will go lean upstairs. With the octane and boost you are running, it may be ok, but I would get a race gas chip for the 80lbs injectors. Just warm up your o2 sensors like always and you will be OK with the leaded gas. You can run more boost using the alky and 114. It is probally very fat upstairs and this could be part of the problems you are experiencing.
