I've been considering an SMC alky kit, but I'm wondering if it's worth it since here in CA we are are cursed with 91 "Super" Unleaded.

Currently I'm running a 3:1 xylene/91 octane mix and can get about 18 psi with no knock. Would 91 octane with an SMC kit give me any better performance than my above combo?

Yes! Even a better reason to run an alky kit. It will make that 91 feel like 105 octane!!

here in kansas, all we have is 91. i have an smc kit and run 20# and 22deg timing everyday. works great!

My times are in my sig using straight 91 octane, dual nozzle SMC kit, and 100% denatured. Just bolted on slicks and went. I know the kit gained over 1 second in the quarter compared to not using it. 15-16 psi at 18 degrees timing vs 24 psi with 22 degrees timing believe me is one HUGE difference! :D
