Ford is definately on top of the market. I'm not a fan of any of the new Chevy's or Mopars. Even though I really dont like Fords at all, if it came to buying a new muscle car, I'd buy the Mustang any day. Chevy came in way too late while Ford came out in 03 with a BANG when they introduced the Supercharged Cobras. They are also rocking in the family sedan category with the Turbo 6 Taurus. And Ford didnt take the government bail out like eeryone else did. Thanks for being truely American Ford! The new Mustangs look SICK!

X2...I'm a GM guy but I manage a Ford Chrysler Dodge Jeep store and Ford really has their act together. From a dealer perspective, they are the easiest to work with and get answers when you need them. Every car company has issues because they are simply big companies, but Ford is the easiest to work with from service, to incentives, to warranty claims, to inventory distribution, and that says a lot about how organized they are. Mosy manufacturers are not dealer friendly, but Ford knows how to build and sell cars the right way. Are they perfect? No...but WAY better as a company than Chrysler or GM. Chrysler is making strides though and they remind me of Ford in 2006 to 2008 so hopefully four years from now they are doing great. GM is getting there, we have Chevy at another location, but they have some organizational hurdles they haven't conquered yet, and product issues, but that's another thread.

To the OP, we are a Shelby dealer and I'll still let a 2013 GT500 go for under MSRP. I'll take 5 orders under MSRP over selling one at anything over sticker. Get in line with the rest of the orders I've presold. We're only gauranteed one per model year but we've never had a problem getting all retail orders built any year yet.

Very nice! Too bad the dealers will mark up these things big time. I wish Ford / GM would control that.
Some dealers have already stated they will be selling at MSRP or below.

Side note, the local Chevy dealer where I live sold heir ZL1 for only $2k over MSRP. This was especially shocking since these are just now hitting the lots.

they will still only run 13's though
LOL!

In all seriousness, though, with a tire mod it'll do pretty alright me thinks.

At the moment, Ford is claiming thing goes 0-150 at the same pace the Ford GT did. It his 60 in 1st. This thing is insane!

Any way you cut it, a 660+ HP car with a warranty for $55k is a STEAL! I know the 550HP cars were a blast to drive, especially in cold weather. Yea, 1st & 2nd were useless on the factory tires. But, throw on a set of Nitto Invos and they actually hook pretty well. I would imagine a decent tire mod on the '13 will make it grab a little better. And feeling that brute power will be absolutely fun as all hell!

Now it is taking everything in my soul not to order one of these things. :o

Nice! Now I know who to hit up once I can't stand it anymore & give in to the devil on my shoulder. :D

I guess with a 1st gear that takes you to 60 they won't really own the 1/4 mile track. I destroyed a 1 or 2 year old Shelby GT 500 at the track a few weeks back. He was only running low 13's at 108. Ford's new lineup is killer though. I saw bone stock 2012 Mustang GT's running 13.1's that same night. There was a Ford Flex with just a tune (AWD Ecoboost) running 13.8's. That guy was telling me the new SHO's with a tune can pull low 13's - high 12's and I believe it because I drove one.

I see the Camaro (some upgrade model or another) has 600 ish horsepower and does a 12.5 1/4 and 4.6 0-60. 650 horsepower and thats it?. I mean thats cool n all that and it sounds like these things run right out the back door-but 600hp? what is it traction?.

Theres alot of new cars out there that are that fast but they all have one thing in common. No character. I'm already seeing tons of Mustangs and Camaros v6 v8 vspecial edition yadda yadda. Character. The GN has it in Spades...and black as the ace of spades ha ha.

Damm after reading this maybe it is time for me to get back to my Ford "roots" and kick some Buick ass :D I have 2 rules to follow.. #1 don't run around with a performance car without drag radials .. #2 Car has to be running right (Buick guys please remember that :p) . Don't go up to the drags without a clue about the car. DRIVE that sucker an get use to it !! Most of the Buick guys don't even use there cars anymore. Guess Melissa will be racing a new car here :D NOT !!

I have owned and raced (we had a fleet of them.. wife , me an 2 kids and a partial "winter fleet" ) these cars since 1986 BUT now a LOT of Buick guys are living off the "myths" of the bad ass Buicks. Sorry 600+hp with a warranty is hard to just look away.

That may have been just a "Shelby GT" which was nothing more than an appearance mod package. That or the guy couldn't drive it. 11+ GT500s should be running MUCH better times than that. Hell, a friend of mine has a 2012 5.0 running 12.6s with nothing done but a spare tire & axle-back removal. 11.9s @ 117 with a tire mod. No tune. No bolt ons (besides tires).

That would be Chevy's beloved ZL1 Camaro. 580 HP, 556 TQ. It's a nice looking car. I'd love to have one. But after having "just the 550 HP" version of the Shelby, I'd MUCH rather have the 13 GT500 over the ZL1.

As far as traction goes, it's as much an issue now as it was in the 60s & 70s. 14" bias ply tires weren't exactly known for hooking up if you had a bad boy engine powering them. Even a stock GN could waste the tires it came with. And if you mod, traction becomes an even bigger issue. But nothing that can't be overcome. Drag radials can cure a lot. I can assure you, a good tire under a ZL1 or Shelby will make it hook, launch and run VERY well.

As for the style, again, go back in time. Shelbys didn't look terribly different than regular Mustangs back in the day. And there were Cali Specials, GTs, special edition this, special edition that. Same with Camaros. Even with the GN & Turbo T, those were basically "special edition" Regals. Of course, I am not knocking GNs or Ts. I obviously am a big fan. But I do think the muscle cars of current are deserving of plenty of respect in both power and styling.

The first add states it has a 6.8 liter engine and later on in this thread a different add states 5.8 liters.

Is it fair to assume that the 6.8 was a typo?

D

Yes, 5.8 they bumped it up from last years 5.4

Absolutely, damn fine cars all of 'em. I probably spend more time on Mustang forums than here and am not one of those guys who thinks the muscle cars of the 60's were the be all end all,but where I coming from with this is I live in a city of 200k + and see a couple new Stangs and Camaros a day. I can't remember the last time I saw a GN out and about not at a cruise. I don't even see Regals around anymore. Its just cooler having something rarer thats all.

I had most of the neat muscle cars of the 60s.. Shelby GT500s/350s, 65 Vette 396/425hp, 427 Cobra and a lot of big block Mustangs.. They were great for back in the day !! Got outta cars for 6 years then saw a GN.. One of my buddys bought a new one.. Took it for a beat run an thought "hey, not to bad for a V6" .. Then it was all downhill from there !! Damm Buicks with a few tweaks would kill half of those cars !! It was an awakening for a die hard Ford guy at the time. But now the Buick fever is leaving an I am getting the new 13 GT 500 "itch" :D

Yea, I definitely agree with you there. I live in a town of probably 25k. It's an odd place. There were as many as 5 2011 and up GT500s. However, there were only about that many new 5.0s. Camaros... I lose count. Probably in the hundreds. LOL! I know of 2 GNs. And tonight, for a local cruise in, they both showed up. It was pretty cool because the cars were drawing a crowd all night long. Granted, my Shelby would pull people in, too. But the GN always has a more fun way of getting peoples attention. And it's always a conversation piece. :D

As bad as I really hate to say it I would sell my GN in a heartbeat to buy a 2013 Shelby, but I would hate to hear the neighbors talking cause I have always said they would never see a Ford in my driveway after I sold my 04 Cobra

Looks like the '13 Cobra has a really healthy torque curve to it. One think I dislike about the LS motors is how soft the power comes on. I know the 3rd gen F bodies / early 4th gen Vettes were slow, but they were a blast to drive on the street because throttle response was instant with the L98. You let those motors breathe (heads, cam) and they just pull hard like freight trains.

With 663hp out of the Ford wrapper on the '13 model, it may pose a bit more of a challenge!

A challenge to the bolt on racers for sure

Only 2 problems...

1. Mustangs are cars that every other person with a drivers license owns or has owned at some point in their life...

2. Have you seen the back seat in a Mustang? Unless you're toting midgets or children under the age of 3 or just want to amputate someones legs, the rear seat is useless....well unless you want to have to move up the front seats so your knees bang into the dash.

Other than that, yes Mustang definitely has it dialed in. It's lighter than the other 2 pony cars and with more power. I wished Chrysler would get it's act tog ether and both lighten the Challenger as well as offer something more potent than the 6.1 Hemi.

The new Camaros are a joke.

Also even though a modded GN can probably outrun a new Mustang, the new Mustang will handle better in the turns and such.
