today i turned 40 and i sure don't feel like it, had back surgery about 6 months ago and seems like everything hurts and there is a day that doesn't go by without some pain. tell me for those of us TB'ers who are 40 plus how was it turning the good old 4-0?

I had back surgery last year when i was 27 for a blown disk i fell like im 40:eek: i know how you feel its like everything is falling apart!!! Congrats on the big 4-0

i hear ya on that

i actually got hurt on new years eve of 1990 and i was 21. talk about sucking bad. celebrated new years eve by going to ER and a shot of something that stopped the pain and a perscription of vicodin. few days later had a surgeon tell me i needed surgery. after seeing a few of my relatives and some freinds and other people go through it and not be so well i thought i would wait. after enduring this for almost 18ish yrs i thought technology has come along way and finally went under the knife after i was in an accident and was permantly disabled due to pinched nerve making me walk with a limp. long story short and almost 6 mo's later i'm hoping for the best. going through rehab now and i swear the pain is almost as bad some days if i didn't have the surgery. but walking with a limp wasn't something i wanted to do the rest of my life and several dr's told me i would could be paralized if i don't gave get it fixed soon. so after pulling me off work and yes i worked with 2 ruptured disc for over 17 yrs including moving furniture and carrying stuff i couldn't go through it anymore. ok i'll get off my soapbox but and i'm sure i'm not the only one who's had surgery. it just sucks when it gets real bad and i go into the ER and the drs tell me i wouldn't have that surgery for anything. i was used to making 50K plus a yr and now disability pays me about half that and it's harder but i'm making it. atleast i got my TB and am alive and doing half way well. or so it seems, and thanks fellow tb'er. hope for pain free days for you soon.

i hurt mine in basic training and they told me it was muscular for 6 years damn military docs. i finally got an mri that they didn't want to do because they were too expensive and got referral to a neurologist. You gotta love the military:rolleyes: i hope you get well soon its a little over a year after the surgery now and it is way better than it was at 6 months it will never be the same but it is better than before. Take care have a great b-day and a merry Christmas

turned 40 this past summer. some days i feel 20 and some i feel 60...

Same for me but most times feel more on the 60 side!! I'm 41 I had a friend who is 50 and in perfect shape tell me when he wakes up in the morning and does not have much pain it's a good day after he turned 40! Now I know what he was talking about!

same here being a fitter for 20 years didnt help me either:biggrin:I wake up and man I hurt all over sucks!41 here also

I'm 63. Had prostate cancer surgery 9 months ago. Made up my mind I was going to get back in shape. I work out everyday and feel great. Do I have aches and pains? Hell yes, but that's okay.
I realized sometime ago that this is the best time of my life. My boys are grown up and doing well (dentist and engineer) and I'm single.
Hell, I've got a Harley shovelhead sitting in my living room. Life if good.
Abraham Lincoln put it this way: "People are just as happy as they want to be."

You have NO IDEA how many of us SENOIR CITIZENS would KILL to be 40 again, with aches and pains of a 40 year old.....or even our current pains! Of course, I would want to know what I know now, and NOT what I thought I knew at 40!

A couple days before I turned 40 last year I was delivering packages to a chinese take out place when a kid came in to pick up an order of food he grabbed a donation jar(for Leukemia) they had on the counter and he bolted out the door. Some customers started yelling he took the money so I took off after him. I thought I was in pretty decent shape but I also knew I wasn't gonna be able to catch him. So I got on the phone-911 and they eventually got him a couple minutes later. I told them what he was wearing and which direction I was going down main street. Well, after 4 blocks at a full run I was done. Anyway, I let wisdom help catch the idiot. It was on a Friday so he got to spend the weekend in jail, haha. I sure felt all of 40 after that run.

I'm 45 and fixing to be 46. You have no idea how much I'd love to be 40 again dude. Bad knees and arthritus suck but at least I can tell the weather now. LOL I have a bulged disk that was mis-diagnosed and two cracked vertabrea not to mention the bad knees from the service. You're lucky and married so you have someone to take care of you when you get old. I'm still single and looking but not hard these days. All I seem to get is loonies and loosers. OMG!

Normally, you're only as old as you feel. If you eat processed food every day, smoke, drink, and don't exercise, you'll feel 50, when you're 25. All day long.
Then again, we had a vietnam vet with us in Iraq, in 04, and he ran 5 miles every morning. He was in just as good a shape as a lot of the 35 year olds in the unit. And this was an elite unit.
Now, if you have a freak injury, then there's nothing you can do about it. And that can happen at any time, and age does not matter. I threw my back out when I was 26 one day. Guys blow their knees out doin silly ****, so age doesn't matter at that point.
Nonetheless, you still have to eat right, get exercise, and get good sleep each night regardless. Or, you're going to feel like ****. So, if you 'feel' like 40, then that may be because of some habits you may have. I'm 36, and I'm in better shape than ANY of my friends and family, and half of my platoon mates.

I guarantee you, you'll feel a thousand times better if you change your exercise and eating program.

I was good up till 50 which I turned just this year.
Was going through a weeks where 4 days were bad & 3 OK. Always mixed up! I could not string more than 2 good days in a row.

I finally got a handle on it. And what was the HANDLE? I started excersiing & eating less carp.. So far seems to be working.

I am fixing to turn 42 in Feb and I still feel like I am mid 20's...save for the accident in last Nov that damaged L4 in my spine. I am still very active and only once in a while the lower back hurts. Lots of stretching, BowFlex and eating better than I used to. :D

back injury for me

i've had 2 ruptured disc since 91 and finally had a fusion in june. i feel my age my of the time but i don't smoke other then cigars every blue moon and rarely drink and if i do i may drink 3-4 beers in a night. i don't exeing rear exercise like i should but i'm rehabbing my back now but still have a tough time with weather and stuff. still have 1 bad disc but still most of the time i don't do much as far as running around and i only went under the knife due to being rear ended in my 300zx back in 07 and i dealt with the pain until then. after the accident i was bad off enough that the oral meds that i was prescribed wouldn't even touch or barely give me any relief. and i had some serious pain meds, not oxycotin but some of the strongest vicodins. sucks when you have pain so bad there isn't much they have that will help. i have my good days and bad days but most of the time i have bad days.

Turning 40 in June. Funny how the pain floats around the body. One day it's the knee, then the back or hands, then....? I do exercise and take vitamins and supplements, but I have been blue collar and athletic my whole life, so now I am starting to pay for it.
