I don't remember it being much of a problem. Pop the bezel off and there are a few small bolts, 7mm I think. The biggest problem I remember is getting the wiring disconnected from the back. I think there is a clip or a small bolt holding the connector to the back of the cluster, but I would think you could get to the bulbs without completely removing the cluster.

i got it.... i wound up removing the padded surround and loosening the speedo cable....

didnt remove it the whole way... kinda finagled it.... through the back

it's easy- once you remove the screws that hodl it tight, the speedo cable snaps off, and then you also have to remove the VSS wires from he speedo. but the main harness unplugs itself when you pull the cluster out.
since you've got it apart, take a soft pencil eraser and clean up all the contacts on the main plug and the back of the cluster. also take a small screwdriver and gently bend all the contact tabs up ever so slightly to make them get better contact.

Did you go with LED dash lights? 1984 1985 1986 1987 Buick Regal Grand National T Type Turbo T GNX ANALOG DASH LED LIGHTS (7) KIT Tho I didnt get this kit, just LED that cost about 10$ for the same look.

i didnt use the Kirban kit.... but i did replace the bulbs with LED units from a local source.... i also installed LEDs for the Cruise, Turn Signals, Brake Warning, SES, Coolant and Oil idiot lights, I also replaced courtesy lights, HVAC/Radio light, Dome, Sidemarker, Trunk and Glove box as well:D

these will go well with my previous, 3rd Brake light, Digitail lights, Tail lights, Cornering Lights.....

oh yeah i replaced my Autometer gauge lights as well;)

Lately Autozone has been carrying led strips. One set of two, which is priced at $15 are each about 4" long with about 5 LEDs. They work perfectly to illuminate TR analog speedo units. Here's how it looks. What a great change from the factory system for only $15 and change...

I was reading the kirban site. What is this "socket" they are referring to?

How did you install the LED strip? Where did you get power from?

Well, the strips, as you may know, have double sided tape to attach. On the speedo face, there are tabs on each side that are a right angle to the face of the speedometer. These tabs are a little wider than the light strips and the right length. Just adhere the strips and run the wires out the bottom. There's a slot on the bottom that accomodates the gear select pointer which you probably don't have. Run the hot wires to 12V on the plug the headlite switch plugs into (probe with testlight for 12V when you turn the lights on), or maybe better, the dimmer switch (this way you can dim them) and the ground wires to a ground, and your done. ;)

Oh yeah, I saw a little square of LEDs in Autozone that were for interior lighting. It didn't dawn on me you could install it in the dome-lite. Is that what you used?
