Congrats Dave on your win! I'm just wondering what you'll do for a encore.

Playing with the good ol' HP calculator again http://home.neo.rr.com/jturrin/calchp1.htm if you put in Dave's 9.571 ET, his 142.36 MPH, and his minimum weight of 3550lbs you will get 899.8fwhp and 799.8rwhp!!!

I'm sure he was at least 10 to 20# more than minimum#.
So could that mean 900HP fw & 800HP rw;)

Might be time for him to upgrade those 009 42.5# Injectors for something larger:D

LOL yeah I figured he was heavier than the minimum weight, but you get the point;) He's definitely making 900fwhp and 800rwhp!

I think Dave should at least get the 50lb injectors just to be on the safe side:D

Round 1 included:
  • Lonnie Diers 'treed' Scott Claridge but his motor started sputtering and Claridge took the win light.
  • Roy Garcia damaged a piston or piston ring (think no compression and lots of oil spray:() and was done for the weekend.
  • - I don't have all the details yet on this round, but will update this when I receive my copy of the ladder.

Round 2 included:
  • Bamford (W) vs. Louie Lopez
  • Dave Stinson (W) vs. Guy Robinson (10.0)
  • Scott Claridge (W) vs. Dusty Bradford
Of the three racers that went on to Round 3, somehow Bamford was paired up with Stinson and Claridge got the bye. Bamford's car reportedly stumbled and Stinson jumped out to a big lead. But then one of them ran ~140MPH:rolleyes: ;)

Bamford then defeated Claridge in the final. Dave wasn't holding back either, he was winning rounds with passes in the 9.60 and 9.70 zone all day.

Big Congratulations to David Bamford who did seal the 2003 TSM Point Series Championship.

That's too bad about Roy cause he was really flyin' from the sounds of it!:(

Hate to ask this question so early after the event, but here goes..... Does anybody have video(s) from the TSM class?
If so please post them for all of us to see (I really hope somebody has a vid of Dave's 9.57 qualifing pass)!

TIA:)

That is unbelieveable. How is he getting those et's and mph off of a 70 turbo? I would love to see those mods if anybody knows them. Wow, i am lost for words, congrats Dave you are flying.

Didn't read the legality of strapping a rocket engine on the top of the car. Anybody?

Congrats Dave! It was good seeing you guys again. Sorry I missed congratulating you in person after the win; you guys snuck off when I was under a hood or something. :)

I will re-post some of what I typed elsewhere just for a recap.

TSM: these guys blew my mind. Dave's car ran a string of 9.60s and a 9.57, won TSM, and went on the trailer still running. Dave and Dan Strezo are doing something right.. Roy Garcia's car running 9.60s on iron heads is unbelievable. Guy Robinson broke into the 9s after the TSM race was done and ran a string of 10.0s. His car had only been running 3 or 4 days. Louie Lopez had some squirrely passes but I don't think he broke anything and he'll be back for more. :) There were 2 or 3 other low 10 second TSM cars there.

Some of us were commenting; 3 years ago at Reynolds there were probably 2 or 3 stock block cars in the 10s. This year there were probably 20 in the 10s or faster. The funniest part was hearing some of the stage guys say they felt like they were underachieving by only running low 10s. :D

It was great seeing everybody again. I told a bunch of people that I'd make it to Bradenton in Feb. with my car so now I have to get moving and make it happen. :)

Just for the record Roy's car had weak rings from the get go and after the 9.98@141+ on the foot brake with a 1.80 60 ft. he cam back with a weak #4 cylinder and more than normal smoke from the breather but no oil leakage. I could have set up to run like and might have some low tens but i did not want Roy or any one he raced against to get hurt if it put oil on the track so i put back on the trailer. I had no time to get new piston rings and the one's i used had lost all there tension on the top ring . Dave Bamford did a great job and will be tough to beat next year. Congrats Top Gun !

Well, the car is just too far off for legality for TSM. I have all the other goodies for competing in TSM, but at this time, I have another car that I can't find it in my heart to cut up. I would have to sell it at a loss, then I could put one together. I can't have 3 of these cars, my wife is supportive enough as it is. I have some decisions to make on this though. Maybe a good enough deal on a clean roller would be all it would take. I will have to put another engine together because at the power levels it would take to be competitive, all the crossed tees and dotted I's are what it will take to win.

Wow, blast from the past. That's back when everybody got along. The above hasn't changed, but all the I's and crossed tees aren't so necessary to run 9.57 by todays standards, but to win TSM now it is more important than ever.
