My 60k GN,I rebuilt motor/trans in Oct/Nov 07. Trans is a stockish rebuild with CK kit, wide band, teflon rings,3 od clutches, PTS servo,Art Carr pan and 9x11 convertor. It has maybe 800 miles on it. Trans has always shifted great. I noticed the fluid was starting to smell burnt. I dropped the pan and found very minimal bushing debris, and the usual black coating from the band/ clutches. I can't see forward, direct or the inside of the band, but lo rev and OD look ok. The band has play and should not be dragging. I built this unit with CK's book and did all his mod except dual feed. Trans has no billet parts.

I have not added a big cooler yet. I am thinking I waited too late:eek: I added alky 3 weeks ago and have 23-24 lbs of boost.

I changed the fuild and filter. I am pretty sure somthing is already hurt since it smelled like that. But time will tell. I may pull it out when I get a spare trans togther.

Also let me add this thing has seen no track passes and just street duty with occasional spirited driving.....in the winter........hence why I haven't added a cooler yet.:)

The fluid is a cooling agent for the trans and can overheat with someabuse of the trans. If it still shifts normal and you did not find any signs of damage with the pan out, then I would not sweet it. However, you will need to get a cooler on this thing. And a drain and fill will not drain the convertor and will still have some bad fluid in it.

Yeah I am aware of the fluid not draining outta the conv. I am going to change it agian in a few weeks

My logic is cooler flow is greatly reduced unil 4th gear lock up occurs. So adding a cooler may not help around town say under 45mph.

That being said,I am getting one ASAP and will change the fliud agian.

How about it tranny gurus how much cooler flow before 4th gear lock up?

Okay back into the garage to start building my next tranny for the 120k GN.
