Anybody come up with a stock style dual port wastegate actuator to use with the AMS-500 or 1000 boost controller? Wanting to try a boost controller with a terry houston style downpipe. If you have something, let me know what your using.

thanks,
Robert

Send Jason White a PM. He has a real nice setup that is working quite well for him.

Robert,

Did you have any success finding a stock style dual port wastegate actuator to use with the AMS-500?

Dave

No luck in finding one to purchase so I made one.

Looks nice. Where did you get the piston. Looks like some kind of hydraulic system actuator.

It's a dual acting air cylinder. It's hard to see in the photo but you also need a floating coupler to attach the wastegate rod to prevent the system from binding.

I haven't had that unit in my hand but my understanding is that the "rod" side of the actuator is not 100% sealed and will leak air/ CO2. This would make it not work with the AMS 500/ 1000.
Before I made one, I also contacted Forge motorsports ( Forge Motorsport | Alloy Fabrication) about doing an actuator and they said they could not seal the rod side also.

No, it work great and I still have it on the shelf.
When I installed my latest engine I went 4 bolt turbo and had to go to an external gate.

Good. I am going to install the one you made for me over the winter. Just checking. Thanks again.

soooo have you tried this with the "AMS-500" ????

well i was going to but after seeing the above posts i guess i wont
if it doesn't seal on the rod side what is the second port for then anyways?

im researching just like everyone else
if all else fails ill go to an external gate over the winter:mad:

just thought it would be nice to keep the downpipe i already have:frown:

i am excited about using the ams 500 and incorporating it with the trans brake creep feature in the xfi
should be a killer combo with repeatable launches !!!

If you are planning to run CO2, you need to find out if the rod side of the actuator is sealed.

The OBX does not seal I have 2, I imported one and made a seal that works very well but not sure if we are going to keep doing that.. TurboSmart has a nice one

Thanks Mike, it doesn't seem to make sense to machine a w/g and not place a seal around the shaft.
