I have been thinking about getting a FAST XFI system. I was wondering if it uses knock retard like a stock ecm does? What is your experience with the system in general? Does it work well? Is it something that can be used for a car that is driven regularly or is it a race car or short trip only deal? Are the units reliable or do they have lots of issues? ie: sensor goes bad fries the unit? Thanks!

The XFI 2.0 can use the stock knock sensor. You'll be very happy with the flexibility of the XFI system.

What would your reason be for the switch? There is a new SD chip that may cover what you are looking for. Much cheaper alternative.

Tired of the problems at elevation on long drives. Car turns into a pig in warm weather or some elevation. I just feel that mucking with the translator day after day adjusting all over the place to get the car dialed in is such a pain in the rear. Would rather have the car fine tuned and I realize it will be the same learning curve with XFI. I know the translator "works" but I am interested in going beyond a basic tune/setup. Fine at wide open throttle but feel the car is kinda chunky in certain areas. Would rather have something with a wideband where I can really get it dialed in. Call me crazy but I also want to open the EGR at certain times cruising to keep the ports clean. Extender does not use EGR. Here in Cali the car has to pass and it is just squeaking by right now.

These cars do turn into pigs in warm weather...
I would try the new SD chip, get rid of the MAF and see how it goes before I dropped 2k on the FAST.Sell the MAF and the Translator to cover your costs. You already have the Powerlogger and Scanmaster...

The XFI 2.0 is just the hot ticket for the goals you stated! :)

It may be a little more expensive than the PL/SD set up, but with the self-tuning feature in the 2.0 you will find it is easy to get tuned in to your specific driving habits and have excellent drivability, especially with your alky injection.

Just my opinion since I just am going through this with 2.0 on a street car I just built.

The XFI has EGR control. It also has Load Indexed Speed Density, which "may" be a benefit to you. From FAST Help Section:

"Load Indexed Speed Density mode will provide the best overall performance for the least amount of tuning effort from inexperienced tuners. Load Indexed Speed/Density mode is something unique to your FAST XFI. In this mode, a “load” variable is formed from the ratio of manifold pressure to barometric pressure. This “load” variable is used to index into the VE, Target Air Fuel, and Base Spark tables. Barometric pressure is sampled from the MAP sensor prior to start up. Its advantages are for users that may drive in areas of vastly differing altitudes"

FAST XFI is the way to go. especially if you purchase it from High PSI (aka Cal Hartline) his tech support is second to none and he stands behind the product all the way. Besides i heard he knows one or two things about tunning.;)

I know Cal and Holly have been doing this for a LOoooOoooOoonng time. I have known of them for many years but always have just been doing bolt on stuff and not such in depth mods. Sounds like the time is coming around to quit wasting time with bandaids (although they work "ok") and start considering XFI.

I did call Hartline performance already and talked to Holly for a while about the system, they seem great!
