Well I got my hip replaced last Tuesday and have all this time on my hands and can't do anything but watch TV & surf internet.:( . All my plans went on hold , but at least I'll be able to move around with no pain soon. It was funny in hospital rehab cause at 56 I was by far the youngest but the fact that it was my second hip I was the most experianced and all the oldtimers looked to me for advice.:D

Full hip? Or the titanium plating job? My mom just got hers plated last summer at the Cleveland Clinic. Was confident they could do it w/o the problems associated with that type. She's Very Happy!!!

Hope you fair as well as she is!

make sure ya do your physical therapy !!!! I had one knee done a few years ago. Doin the other soon I hope.. Was a walk in the park . Physical therapy made a big difference

Full hip replacement, not sure of the brand yet but it's just like the last one with nickle cobalt steel ball and improvements to the crosslinked polypropolene socket liner ( which can be replaced if ever needed but not likely because I was told no signs of wear in 30yrs worth of flexing in the lab):D The parts that contact bone are sprayed with titainium to give it a porus surface for the bone to grow into, sort of like scuffing up a shiney surface to get paint to stick. This operations results were so good on my right leg that I couldn't wait to get it done on the left. It's like the joint is "good as new" with no pain and loss of motion at all.:D

Dan......Right Knee?.........Left Knee?..........Or........Weenie?

Sam, Good luck with your recovery. Don't do things because you feel fine. Let it heal. I made the mistake of tearing an engine down about 4 days after shoulder surgery. Heck.....I "felt" good enough to do "light" work. MAN!!!! Was I hurting for about two weeks after that!! It SUCKED big time.

I hear ya on the PT , just met with my PT guy today at home and he is the same guy I had 7 years ago on my other hip. Good guy and really knows his stuff , gave me a bunch of different exercises , made sure I did them right and told me why we do them the way we do. He comes to the house 3 times a week but I work on it everyday. As far as doing too much to soon, ya did that already, made chili and all that standing in the kitchen made my knee swell, had to ice it down & take pain meds , won't do that again:eek:

I can't make it hot , the wife won't eat it plus it was her idea, but it still helped on the way out ... you know what those pain meds due to ya.

Yes I do. Make sure you drink ALOT of water all day. Eight 8oz. glasses min/day. That will help ALOT. If you are taking Percocett, just know that the real name is Perco-PLUG. When our daughter had a brain tumor removed, the doc perscribed about 5-6 different laxatives and stool softeners. Hit the pharmacy and stock up. They are your friend.

Don't feel bad a few years back I worked with a guy that was only 32 years old and had to have a hip replacement. In his case, because he was younger his recovery was much quicker than they had originally anticipated.
