Guys and gals...
I finally got this turbo installed after having it for months waiting for the weather here in lovely Alaska, err, ah, I mean, Michigan to break.

This turbo is replacing the OLD faithful and trusty T-63-1 (3in inlet, 2 1/2 outlet) with a PTE .63 housing. I was using that with an "O" pump, real Art Carr converter. And it spooled OK, to not bad at best. From the right launch or roll it was sometimes better.
The new 62-65 DBB was installed with an .85 PTE ex housing and otherwise the exact same set up. I am using an HKS external gate to control boost, and thoroughly ported the wastegate whole to 1 1/2in, which is the max for my downpipe and gate. A little background info here... At the end of last season I was able to clip off a couple 10 second runs with 25psi with the 63. Then promptly turned the boost down to 20-21 as I left the track very happy to have those 10 second runs finally under my belt with the car. So, after all the porting, and the initial drive, the boost with the new turbo is just about 25psi with the same wastegate setting. Needless to say, I was suprised to see the boost so high. But, with what I have heard from a couple vendors I shouldn`t of been to suprised.

The new 62-65 DBB turbo spools WAY quicker than the old 63, even with the 85 housing installed. It feels like I put a TE-44 on the car as far as spoolup goes. I do not have any numbers from the track, but it feels at least as good, if not better on the top end as well. I have been out tuning the new combo, and have been suprised at the mph it has gone during my WOT pulls. I actually did not think I was going quite so fast. I guess that is a good thing.;)

In closing... I am VERY pleased with the feel and performance of this new turbo. On the street, there is no comparison. It is WAY BETTER! If you are on the fence about this turbo, grab it. You will not be disappointed!

Good to hear. I just changed from a 63E to a 66BB. I was going to get a 6265DBB but I got a killer deal on the 66. I am hoping I get similar results with the 66 as you got with the 6265. Let us know when you get some track numbers.

Brian

You may have just motivated me to to finally install mine!
What stall are you going to try next.

6265

so what converter stall do you think you will be going with?

which compressor housing did you get?

Bob

Bob,
I has not thinking when I ordered the turbo. I did not specify.
Ended up getting the "E" cover. Wished it was the "S" though.
But, all in all, I am quite happy.

Well... In the past I have really not cared much for the Vigilante. But, after riding in some friends cars with a 67-76 DBB turbo, I am going to bite the bullet and try the 0 pump Vig with this combo. Maybe with the "turbo stator" it will be better than the old converters were.
Typically the 0 pump comes in at 2800-3200 depending on the car. My car is a touch light, so will probably be a little lower than some.

Thanks Brian, I have a 3200 but I think I could get away with a 26-2800.
Maybe I will know when it is actually on!!! LOL

Turbo stator is the only way to run a Vig unlocked.

Brian I hope that tranny holds up with all that power. Might need to get it rebuilt by that guy up near your neck of the woods.:D

Are you planing on going to the track this saturday with Tinman?
Im waiting on somebody with a billet to lay down a real number.

Well... I did finally get to the track.
Made one 1/8th mile pass, and the track was slightly better than usual. So, on the second pass I decided to run her through. After "attempting" to turn up the boost first. :) I gave mya "dial a gasket" a full turn, and fully expected 2-3 psi more. Not to be. The car saw 23 psi through the traps and went 10.905 @ 122. The 63 that came off propelled the car to a 10.84 @ 125 at 25 psi. Keep in mind, this is a stock cammed car, and I go through the traps at 5400-5500. So, your numbers may vary!;)

I was very pleased with the launch, and spool on the line. I attribute the better 60ft to the way the car spooled so hard right at the hit. I am going to get the boost back up to 25, and get out and see what happens.

Brian now that you have had it to the track what rpm stall would you recommend?

Oh yeah, congrats on another 10 second pass.
