My car came with Flowmasters and the drone at 70 mph is quite annoying.

Until I get the funds to purchase a new exhaust I've considered installing a set of these on the ends of the tail pipes in hopes of shutting it up:Summit Glasspack Mufflers: SUM-630802 - summitracing.com

In the past I tried this with an old 18 inch glasspack and it seemed to absorb the drone, not sure if if these would work as they're shorter.

Just wondering what you've done to kill the drone on your Flowmasters.

I had one of those in place of my cat on my ATR single shot and it didn't make a difference.

I put up with the flowmasters for like 6 years, and then went to the exhaust shop, had them remove them and put magnaflows in their place. No drone and deeper sound.

How deep are the Magnaflows? Are they a free flowing muffler like a Dynomax Ultraflow?

If I had the funds I'd replace my stock downpipe and 2.25 pseudo dual exhaust with a 3 inch down pipe and a single 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust with something other than Flowmasters. I figure this has to be better than what I have now, plus it will give me room to grow.

I had the 2 chamber 40 series mufflers on for years. They do drone alot. I changed to the three chamber 50 series stainless mufflers and that helped alot. It still has a small drone area in it, but much better. When I cruise on the freeway at 70mph, it's much quieter now. The car is quieter at idle now too.

M uncle had the flowmasters on his buick and it was the typical flomaster drone. I am running ATR headers, T- Houston 3" DP , 3" test pipe and dual 2 3/4" system with Dynomax race bullets the 18" unitys not the 12" they are a straight through design very low restiction, the car definitely talks to you at idle and at WOT ...holy sh*t enough to get any cop in a 50 mile radius to look my way....lol It does not have a real bad drone but it is noisy but I like it!

My solution was to sawz-all the the restrictive Flowmasters off and put on a straight through muffler:biggrin:

Switch to a Magnaflow muffler. No drone, more quiet than stock while cruising, but gets loud at WOT. Healthy deep tone at idle. Cant judge it by what you hear on TV and sound bytes. But unlike most straight through mufflers, it doesnt sound raspy and gross at WOT like a lowrider with cherry bomb glasspacks. It sounds great, and the mufflers are made from stainless steel, so they wont corrode even if they get scratched.
Please dont buy any tube style glasspack muffler, especially dynomax race magnums. The all time worst sounding muffler ever made.

i love my hooker,,,, aerochamber 3" that is:D and probably 85 of the people on here run them...or the magnaflows

i must be the only person to ever have Flowmaster mufflers that don't drone.
the answer to what little drone my Nova had was to install an X pipe, but that really doesn't apply to a TR. i have the Flowmaster crossflow muffler on my T Type, and it doesn't have any drone. actually, it doesn't make any sound at all. it's almost too quiet- and that's with a gutted cat. but it is faster and the turbo does spool up better than it did without a muffler when i forst got the car on the road.
one could do what GM did to get rid of the drone when they started putting big exhaust on the Caprices in the late 80's- stick a 12" glasspack muffler right before the end of the tailpipe. just spend a little money and get a good one that doesn't neck down inside and the drone should be killed without airflow being restricted.

isn't that part of the fun...have a muscle car with that sound....turn the radio up..

After trying H-pipes, different tail pipes, etc. I removed the Flowmasters and bolted in DynoMax mufflers. Best thing I ever did.

my has 2 1/2 dual flows i dont know if they are 2 or 3 chamber and they dont drone at all .i dont know why might be playing my music to loud :)

with my single shot and my FM at least my neighbors know to get out of the road while they are walking their dogs when I come in the subdivision and I dont have to clean blood and guts out of the tires LOL
