Just got an Email back from Mark at Fontana Speedway.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Mike,

Sorry for my delayed response! That would be up to the organizer of the event and as of now, no one has organized such an event on the drag strip. I’ll actually do some digging into who the contact was with that group to see if they would be interested in hosting such an event again.

Thanks!

Mark Bailey

I'll give Mark a day or two to do his homework. If he can't come up with anyone who wants to organize a private track rental, I'll try and find out who rents the track (Hot Rod Mag, Road and Track, etc). Maybe we can flip them a few bucks to get in with their group and save them some dough.;)

I do know a race team that needs to do some test and tune in a few months. :)

Date? Looks like will have to decide on a T&T date that most can attend as it doesn't look like there will be a private lane. I'd love to attend & meet y'all (will be gone 3rd weekend March & 1st weekend Apr.).

Mike if u can find a few guys to help with all the work involved in organizing this ill front
Most of the money$$$????????

I still haven't heard back from the track manager. I was buried alive with work and getting my taxes done this week. Let me pursue this further next week. Thanks for the huge offer to make things happen here, in the South Western Section. :)

Well, I talked with Mark, the track manager today. He wasn't able to come up with an organization to middleman a private track rental. He said that if we wanted the track (two lanes) for 8 hours, it would be 6k. That would include everything. He would need one check for the 6k. It would be up to us to handle all the individual payments.

I then asked him if there were any "other" companies, magazines, race teams or organizations that rented the track, and if it would be OK if we got with them to rent some track time. He said that it wouldn't be a problem but couldn't tell me who was going to be renting it in the months to come.

Here's the way that I see it. The easiest deal would be to jump on the tail of someone who had to rent the whole track. They would likely be stoked to not have to foot the bill for the whole thing. We would then only need to organize the money for our small bunch of Turbo Buicks.

Option #2. Fork out 6K. Try and get enough cars to commit (60 min) to at least pay for it, and hope you don't get stuck taking it in the shorts from people who pulled out or told you that they'd pay. I believe that this is what Alternative Motoring was doing and got stuck losing money when they couldn't get enough people to pay for doing the deal. As I remember, they used to charge 100 bucks each to run. They limited it to 100 cars. This would bring in 10K and give them profit of 4K to middle man the deal. When it worked, it was great. You could get in all the runs you wanted, on a well prepped track. The problem was that the last time they did it, they only got about fifty or so people to commit.

Comments or suggestions?

Well, I'm off in the boondocks of Fresno & would happily pay $100.00 to race to heart content & met fellow GN'ers. But it would take 60 folks to commit, which is tough. To prevent Mike from being abused (at least) 60 registrants would have to pre-pay - which would be quite a lot of work for Mike to coordinate a date & entrant payments timely. Too bad track cannot give info of other renters that we can join, wouldn't the track schedule give them a big hint (perhaps he/they didn't want to be involved in coordinating between such teams & Mike) ? Perhaps it would work if invited/open to other groups, may be fun to smoke a GT or such :p.
Quite a lot of coordinating/work though :( . Sorry, seems like the reality to me, but not very helpful.
Hay! Instead we can just use the concrete strip that runs length of Papa Lou's complex! For Free!

sounds like it might be tuff to get 60 racers,,
but if we can get more people involved them maybe we can get more help?????

I think you should set up a poll and have a vote to see how many will come to the track day.

The guys at So Cal Muscle and a few of the other local/regional groups would probably be into sharing the track....

Find four groups of people, responsible enough to bring 15 cars at a hundred bucks each. = 6000 bucks.

#1 Turbo Buicks
#2 Cad-V
#3 LS
#4 Mustang
#5 Mopar
#6 ?
