Gas Prices are Hurting our Cars Values...

I recently seen some really nice Turbobuicks going for Cheap on Ebay, Craigslist, Autotrader, Cars.com and Collectorcartraderonline, VERY Recently!!!

I have seen people selling them for much cheaper than usual in every Turbobuick forum as well. What's going ON????? Many people are bailing on our cars, and JUMPING SHIP!!!! I hate to say it, but I have 2 GN's and I am going to sell one, because it's starting to get scary what's happening with Gas Prices going up .10 Cents a WEEK!!!

What's going on? Will we recover?????????????????? Will Gas stabilize and STOP GOING UP!!! And HOW MUCH ETHANOL ARE they going to eventually put into our Gas????
I'm getting Nervous. And don't tell me that it's all good and we have the best bang for the buck with a V6 Musclecar.

I'm sorry for venting. I'm just starting to get very nervous. On one point, I feel like selling both of my GN's and on the other point, I feel like keeping them till Gas prices hit $10.00 and the whole economy is in the tank... I just don't want to end up selling my GN's for $7,000, When 2 years ago, I could of got around 13,000 to 14,000 for them.

I'd Rather Keep them!!!! This just sucks.

My dad said he was watching Barrett-Jackson and the prices for some of the cars were not as high as they usually were. Of course I didn't believe him, as everyone knows anything on B-J sells for more than it's worth.

When gas hits $10 a gallon I will still own my 1969 Chevy Nova and probably my Regal too. They just might become more of a garage ornament.

Of course there's talk of when a democrat finally takes office gas will go down, not sure if I am supposed to believe that.

Why sell your cars now? Keep them if you can. Trust me I wished I still had a few of the old gas guzzlers I used to own.

My guess is, no matter what gas prices do, these cars are always going to hold some kind of collector value. However, it might be only the low mileage cars that are sought after.

I didn't buy my car for an investment so I don't care what it's worth now or what it might be worth in the future. What I do worry about is not being able to afford to drive it anymore and having it just sit in my garage like a paper weight. :frown:

And I think you're also right about the low mileage cars....

I dunno what you guys are complaining about. The GN is the most fuel efficient vehicle I own. Beats my wife's 99 300M by a couple and whips the crap out of my 96 GMC 2wd.

I'm still long hauling the power tour. I don't care if it hits $6 by june, still doing it.

If the values drop, that's just another reason to NOT SELL IT!

I don't think a value drop has anything to do with the price of gas directly. Indirectly the price of gas is hurting our economy, and any time the economy takes a down-turn it hurts the price of our vehicles. I've seen this happen several times. I wouldn't be too concerned about the value of your vehicle unless you intend to sell in the near future. As for the value of our cars rising, unless you are a speculator, or investor, I wouldn't get too excited. The cost of parts for the A Bodies has gotten so expensive I came over to the GN's. I certainly hope that doesn't happen here, or you will find a lot of GN owners no longer able to afford the hobby they love. Chevelles, even rust bucket Chevelles with rotting floors, etc., were going for $5000 + a couple years ago when I walked away. No thanks.

Come on now, who here has bought one of the cars because they were good on gas? I'm guessing none. They are actually pretty good on gas compared to other performance cars. That should actually help the value I would think. I mean if you want a performance car, why not buy one that can get you 20-ish mpg? Even if you wanted one for a daily driver, it isn't that expensive to drive. In fact, it is probably more affordable. You can get one for cheaper than a new Prius, and you won't have to pay the high hospital bills associated with getting beat up everytime you get out of one. Also, the repair and maintenance costs are probably alot cheaper than a newer car. That is if you use it just as a daily driver, and aren't constantly out blowing it up racing it.

I get twice the mileage my old T/A got so the cost of running my T is still a bargin to me. I've watched the Mecum autions on TV and there are some pretty nice cars that are not getting the money they were 2 years ago. I think when things settle down (maybe in year or so) the prices of our cars will go up some. If you got cash now, it's time to buy house and classic cars.:smile:

And I seem to recall you sold a nice looking Cortez silver 70 SS 396 for like $26k? I am still surprised you sold it as low as you did unless it was a clone or a rust bucket covered in bondo.

You are right though, the Chevelles have gotten expensive, especially the SS models. I had one I bought for $2500 in '04, it had an ok body on it, floors were original....I had to sell it when I moved out of NC this Feb, and I still feel like I gave it away as cheap as I sold it for.

20MPG? That's good. My 4cyl 2001 Grand Am only averages 25MPG. Maybe I should start driving my Buick to work.

It's not that I think my car is going to be a paper weight. However, it's gonna cost me $50 just to put some gas in it to tool around on a nice day where as before it would only cost around $20. I'm going to drive it less to save the gas money for my DD.

You guys are all right. I'm stupid, and no, I don't have to sell it. I love my GNs.

I'm just frustrated with all that's going on, I guess. I'm not rich either. I make less than 100k a year, and I think I need to just relax a bit.

This economy has been affecting so many people, and I guess I was starting to feel like a squirrel who needs to stores some "nuts" for winter.

After all. It's not like there won't be GN's or Turbobuicks for sale in the future ever. They'll always be around. How much money will they cost? Well, depends on the market and economy. Just like Homes respectively. Just a couple of years ago, all prices of homes were inflated, and then the 3rd quarter of 06, the housing market took a turn for the worst.... now look were we're at.

I'm going to hold onto my GN's for now. That's my final decision. I could care less if the whole dam economy sinks into the ground, and gas shoots up more than we could have imagined.

Yes, we still do have the best gas mileage muscle cars- averaging over 20 miles per gallon. You guys are all right. And I'm not going to any carshow and going to be salivating over someone elses car, and wishing I didn't sell mine.

These Turbobuicks grow on you. You actually have a kind of relationship with them. I'm truly a GN fan.

I don't think many people decide on a TB based on gas prices. They are toyz for almost everyone. Prices are down because the economy is down. Just as home prices are down. I don't see the nexus.

Our cars are a luxury car these days (and I'm not talking luxury as in comfort), in bad markets people tend not to buy the toy they have been wanting. Our cars are sound, the long run for these cars will be cool to watch.

When times get rough and money is tight, the toys get sold, and unfortunitly, you will sell toys cheap if you need to pay your mortgage and feed your kids. God knows how many nice cars I sold for the house I live in.
