Im working on a 95 chevy full size 1/2 ton pickup 4 wheel drive. I just pulled the trans out of it. It has the 4L60E. I started to make a horrendous screech when you put it into gear! Actually the only gear that would work yet was reverse. I though I read somewhere that the planetary gear set can self destruct.

Where would be the best place to get a rebuilt transmission? I haven't priced GM yet but my customer is probably going to have a heart attack when he finds out the price.

My guess is a rebuilt unit will be around $1500.00?? New, probably don't want to know.

You're gonna spend much more than $1500 if the tranny is making that kind of noise. Price a Jasper rebuilt and save some headache. Expensive yes, but that's all we use now and very seldom have problems.

4l60e

Call this # 800-406-1109--they can handle shipping also--since you have it out it shouldn't be all that much They have probably one, if not the top builder in the country.. Best of luck

gm about $2100:eek:

Yes,the low planetary can self destruct. Jasper is good stuff too.

Had 4L60E rebuilt about 7 months ago in my 94 Z-71. My neighbor owns a transmission shop. Its built right, its built good, its built to tow. He also put new seals in the transfer case. Total with the "fat" cut out was at 2300.00.........
I tried going cheap and bought one on-line from Mad Dog Transmissions. Me and a friend from church spent all day swapping out the transmission...It lasted about 6 months. So...1500.00 for the Mad Dog piece of turd that lasted 6 months and 2300.00 to have my original rebuilt...Yeah..Ive got a fortune in transmissions....Don't go cheap like I did the first time. I'm glad I kept my original and was able to have it rebuilt..
