GM EOS- contains zinc or not???

I saw late last Fall on V8 Buick.com that the GM EOS no longer contains zinc! A fellow I know and trust on that site who is quite knowledgeable made the statement. I can not confirm or deny this personally but I did purchase BG MOA which has zinc (states it on the can). I wanted a zinc based EOS to break in my new motor on the TR. Someone might want to look into this since it seems everyone is jumping to get the GM EOS assuming it has zinc. If it was discontinued, I'm sure this was because of environmentalist pressures!

If you google it, BG MOA, you'll find it. Looks like it's about $12 to $15 for a 16 oz can.

....not only does it do good for your engine, it's the only other lubericant that ARP recommends besides their own as a fastner assembly lube.

HOW

I havent used that BG product but the engine cleaner is the best thing made period to clean out carbon buildup.

Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Supplement

Anybody ever try Lucas oil stabilizer?

I'd like to find out more on the Lucas oil Supplement too. I spent some time with an engine builder recently on a dyno run. After the first break in run, he
changed the oil, cut open the oil filter for inspection and added a couple of bottles of the stuff to the crankcase with the regular oil. He said he uses it on all of his racing engines. He says it prevents drystart on the bearings. He swears by it and his engine produced 1900+ HP that day.

Any experienced engine builders or regular users of Lucas care to comment ?

I have been using it for the past two years and the motor runs nice and smooth, can't say much about it except that it hasn't done anything bad to my car. My car even detanated and cracked the #6 piston and the connecting rod bearings still look good and they are the original ones. I use to put Dr Detroit in my car for 8 years and I can't say anything bad about that product either. I just switched to lucas because I was told that stuff is great, so I have been giving it a try. I would like to know more about the lucas as well, and what are people's opion of the lucas compared to the EOS from GM.

This months Hotrod mag. has an article on cam failures and what are the causes and supplements to add to oil.Eos,fords brand of eos, diesel oil,and racing oils.

Eos

to answer your question, all engine oils today do not have EP additives like
yesterdays oils. the reason why can be answered in two ways, #1,
todays engines no longer require these EP additives (extreme pressure),
because they no longer use A flat tappet cam. most use A roller.
#2, the EOS has high zinc content thereby not making it enviroment friendly.
it is safe to use at every other oil change. it is A must for new engine
break-in as stated above. the only oil I know of that is on the market that still has these EP
additives are valvoline racing oil.

check

your owners manual, i was reading through it the other day, and it even says, if you feel your car is having an oil problem, check with the mechanic, they will recommend the use of "eos" to cure the problem, not sure if it was worded like that, but I do have it in the 81 in the garage :D use it, its good for you. ;)

Thanks Fred, for the good explanation. :) EOS, as I understand it, is for new engine break in. I also use it for that purpose.

Any comments on the "Lucas" product to prevent dry start-ups ?

I just (4/17) received the latest issue of Hot Rod Magazine in the mail. It has a detailed article on motor oil and problems with breaking in flat tappet cams. Check it out!

Gm Eos Question

Mobil I May Have Been A Good Product Some Time Ago, However Since Our Government Coerced The Oil Companies Into Removeing The Friction Reducing Materials On The Ploy That They Might Harm 100,000 Mile Cat Converters, Its Definitely Not As Good As It Once Was. We Lost 3 Flat Tappet Cams With Mobil 1, All Within 1000 Miles, several Years Back. We Now Run Pennzoil Long Life 15/40 Or Rotella With Eos For Break Ins And Each Oil Change Thereafter,[3000 Mile Intervals] We Maintain Several Mid- 10 Daily Drivers.

Moly slip works well too and is available at NAPA and many other retailers. I have used it in my GN as well as my high mileage flat tappet daily driver car and no issues wiping out my cams. I run the mobil 1 in the GN at the same time and dino oil in my daily driver.

EOS was discontinued by General Motors in the second quarter of 2007.
:(
I've been using ZDDPlus Oil Additive-
mostly because it is inexpensive and claims to contain the same stuff as eos
I haven't heard the contrary so far, so heres hoping
