Thinking about trading my 87t for a toyota 4x4 truck..........

Good luck with it. I basically agree with everyone else. The things make a dawn nice daily driver. You/your son absolutely won't be disapointed with it. I have had my '88 4Runner (3VZE V6 5-speed) since 94 and I had an 87 (22RE I4 5-speed) for three years previous (I rolled it) So I have been daily driving a Toy for close to 2 decades. Mine has 265,000 on it with all original drivetrain. The motor had the head gasket service done back in '90 and It didn't even need a clutch till well over 200,000. Having this truck has been the most direct reason I can afford to have all my other toys (GN, Vette, Bikes, etc.)
After all I haven't had a car payment or full insurance for the last 15 years. I havealso personally turned over twenty friends and relatives into Toy fans as well and not a one of them has ever come back with a complaint.

I have done many upgrades over the years, but the biggest impact was made by a custom stainless 2.25" catback system and the K&N FIPK system. The two of those together gave a great deal more power to it. I plan on doing a 5VZFE 3.4 swap into it if the motor ever goes. They will have to bury me in this thing.

Some jackhole asked me the other day why I don't trade it in while I can for the cash for clunkers deal. I almost punched him in the face for even suggesting it in front of the truck :)

Does this look like a clunker?

that is a great looking 4 runner! I think if I keep my little toyota for a few more years, I will put a pre runner kit on it, and a motor upgrade. I would LOVE to off road this thing. The closest I get, is jumping the rail road tracks:biggrin:

Guys-

I know nothing about Toyota Products, but my son that is soon to be driving age saw a 1988 Ext Cab 4x4 here at our local lot.

It was owned by a local old man (really) and taken really good car of. It has the M23 motor (i think thats it) and automatic.

Great shape inside and out! 125,000 miles. New Bridgestone tires, probably a 7 scale rig maybe 8.

I think I can get it for him for 3-4 Grand, think thats a good deal? Pics will follow tomorrow but trust me its nice.

Ty

There is a Top Gear episode where they do the following to a toyota 4 runner:

drive it into a tree
let it sit IN THE OCEAN for 5 hours
hit it with a wrecking ball
set it atop a 20 story building and then the building is demolished

and the thing still started and ran using only regular tools from a portable tool kit, and wd-40.

the car still ran.

point being: these things are indestructable
