I just removed my worn torn headliner from my 84 t type with fac moon roof. The problem I am having is what to repair the headliner board where I cracked it getting it out of the car. It appears to be like sometype of foam like material. I want to give the area some added strength too, tape, glue combo?. Also does anyone know do I have to remove the moonroof frame etc to get to the moonroof sliding cover to replace that material too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

are you having professional shop install the material on to the board? if you are they can glue some material on the back side of the crack for some added strength. if not get a peice of cloth that is about 2-3 inches wider than the crack on each side and glue it on. if you are doing it dont use the aresol glue it dont hold very well. use a contact cement sprayed from a spray gun.

Your roof has to come out to replace the fabric on the sunshade. There may be a trick to do it in the car but by the time you figure it out you would be time ahead just pulling the roof. You might also consider replacing the weatherstrip at this time. If you use the tape and glue method to repair the headliner try not to stick a lot of tape on the headliner side as the tape will be quite thick and you will see the outline when the material is in place.

I had several cracks in my foam backing of the headliner. I used a metal band like tape that is used for vent pipes. The stuff wasn't that cheap, but it worked. The adhesive on the tape wasn't good enough to stick, but I used that in combination with regular duct tape and glue.

I think the key thing is to REALLY clean the old adhesive off. It takes time, a lot of elbow grease and patience unless you have power tools that can do this. Just be careful not to damage the foam material more when taking the old adhesive off.

I used the kit from JAX and had really good results. HTH

Guys, I heard you cant use the same material on the sun shade due to the thickness? I am going to redomine over the winter but dpont know what to do about the sunshade.

thnaks,

You can use the same material on the sunshade with out any problems. I think the factory did use a thinner foam there but the thick stuff doesn't cause trouble. Good Luck
