For as long as I can remember even back to 1990 everyone thinks the the GN is a Monte Carlo. Ok, I can live with this and somewhat understand if the average person is not a car nut. Today my son and I are running around and get out of the car at a local store when this guy comes running up and wants to know why I painted my 442 black. I just looked over and said that I purchased the car that way. He goes on to tell me that it is a shame to take a collector 442 and paint it all black. This time I replay, well it is still fun to drive regardless of the color. Luckily my son bails me out of this discussion because he wants to go inside the store.
Has anyone else ever had there TR or GN confused as a 442?

i got something a bit similar.... but a bit different an more crazy..... i was pumping gas on my car (87 Buick Turbo Buick Limited) and an 87-89 Camaro pulls right next to me making all this noise... the driver looks at my car like it was just an old bucket Regal. His friend (the passanger) gets off and starts staring at my car. out of no where he puts his hand over his mouths while he is screaming "Noooooo Waaaaaay"... He says; " Ive seen and heard alot about this cars, but ive never seen one in person.. This are Turbo charged right?" Me; " Yes, its a V6 turbo" his friend comes up, and he tell him, " Man, this is a GNX, they only made like 200 or something" Me; "No men, this is a Limited." Him;" No men, you dont know what you have!" so he starts taking pictures of it. Then he says, " Why you put all this crome **** on it.. It doesnt look good".... I just smile and after knowing that i wasnt going to win, i just said yeah, its a GNX, and im going to take all the crome off of it.... crazy but true story.....

That is too good. Here is an idea for your next personalized tag: LTD GNX :D

I can almost understand a cutlass confusion over the Monte. The Cutlass and Regal share many body parts and sheet metal together - much more then the Monte does....

At least they didnt call it a Grand Prix.... :)

I can't wait to see what kind of comments I get on my T with the GNX Flares & louvers, a burgandy/silver GNesque interior, and the custom TNX emblems and dash plaque, it's gonna be a hoot.

Brent, You and I are thinking along similar lines (but slightly different directions). My project would be called "Project GN HEX" (The "HEX" comes from my PA Dutch Background) It is a GN/GNX frame and drivetrain, the GNX Rear Suspension has already been installed:eek: , and it will have a GN/GNX interior (Black/Grey). But, the Body will be a '79 Century Turbo Coupe in the original Saffron Color with black trim:eek: . It will have GNX louvers, but I'm not sure if the flares would fit. This is a LONG term Project, year 2 of 10?? I love your interior!!

They call me Mellow Yellow. Man thats neat. The 79-80 CTC is one of my favorite body styles.

It's only going to get worse(better?) as the years roll on. One of my "rules" is that "you should never own a car older than you are". You know there's been an entire generation out there that doesn't even know what owning a fast car let alone an American car is. You know the current "ricers" who have a Honda only because Mom has one, yada, yada. I have the same problem with the 40 somethings when I have my Vega.

I'm filling the GN up at the 7-11 across the street from my job the other day. One guy is across from me with an Astro and another is pumping his Lexus. The Astro guy says to me that you dont see them around anymore, especially clean ones like mine. The Lexus clown remarks that no wonder with gas at $3.00. The a$$clown just would not beleive that my GN got 25+ MPG. I made sure I timed the red lights right just so I could make him sweat to the entrance ramp of the interstate.;)

Haha, sounds pretty cool, you'll have to post some pics of it. How hard was the GNX rear end install? That's Stage II of my project, GNX rear and 4 wheel disk's. Seems like I am always 2 weeks and 2 parts away from finishing Stage I of my little project, LOL.

Yeah, that is another one I get quite frequently. Does that have the 350 or 400 in it. Then it's the "How can you afford gas at these prices?"
I actually took the time to respond to a guy one time and told him that it has a little 231 V6. He gave me the RCA dog look then came back with "I thought those things were fast."

It amuses me when people think they know more about your car than you do, lol.

Cutlass 442

Someone called my WH1 a Cutlass 442 today. It didn't bother me cause I like them as well. Just don't call it a Monte Carlo. Too darn redneck for me!

I went to checkout a car show at the Volo auto museum a couple weeks back. I was parking my Silver T and couple guys are getting out of the car as I pull in. One guys says "Thats a Grand National". The other guy says "It's only a V6". I was laughing about that all day think yep its only a V6. To top it off they were driving a plain jane 4 door family cruiser.
