Heard the knocking!! Bad Gas?

Gentlemen,
The weather has cooled down here in the Tampa area into the 60's, so I figured I would take the GN out for a spin. As I drove around I noticed that my temperature gauge was dead set on 160 and figured that I just had to punch it in this cooler weather. When I nailed it midway through 1st off I went. But shortly after the shift I not only saw my lights going red but I actually heard the pre-detonation, it sounded like a diesel there for just a secong before I got off the throttle, SCARY! But how is it that the only thing that has changed is the outside temperature? And for that matter it's cooler! My fuel and boost haven't changed, any inputs? - BB

I have been seeing 1 1/2 psi increase in my boost and a little more KR . I would Check your gauge with an adjustment of the wastegate rod.HTH

Check for leaks in the vac. hoses to soleniod and wastegate.

Bad gas normally starts with some belly rumbles then some vibrations followed by a gagging smell..

cool air can change a few things if you hadent drove it since hot out get in it shortly and check boost level and if you have scan tool get 02 reading at wot

sounds like the cool air and possibly boost raise together are leaning it out

It counterintuitive, but our cars can be more knock prone in the cooler weather, as they ingest more air, and lean out. You may need more fuel???

This is where a SM2 is nice, you could get the exact number of degrees of KR and O2's to see if its lean. Just not practical to have DS hooked up all the time

Similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago when we got that first cool weather (dropped almost 20 degrees from 1 weekend to the next). No ther changes, my knock went from 0 to ~2-3 degrees, and I saw O2's below 800 for the first time ever. The cool weather can lean it. I assume lowering boost a bit will help while retaining the same power output because of the denser air.
