Don't have a hood insulation pad. Mild engine build, has a turbo cover. Will it eventually burn the paint on the hood? The underside of the hood is clean and dont mind that it is missing. But dont want to screw up the paint job. A new pad would be ridiculously expensive. They are already expensive and the oversized shipping to Hawaii is no bueno. Is there an alternative? Some sort of spray on. Universal kit that does not look ridiculous. Or a localized heat shield like the hot air guys?

Been running 11 years without a shield or hood pad after a fresh paint job with no issues to the paint

Chuck: Turbo Blanket......hmmmmm. Good idea, wonder if I can find one or modify one to fit under the shield?

87we410877: Looks like there out of stock, but shipping is still the killer for Hawaii. I saw a post about the aircraft firewall. Checked out his page. Looks like he is pretty sick and, understandably, his product is on hold. Had a recommendation to another site but that was no longer available. Do you know any other site that carry this stuff?

Bill: Glad to hear it....maybe a hood pad is not needed in the short term.

Maybe a coating of bed liner. Or for good measure just the part of the hood that are single walled. Possibly some kind of sound deadening panels. Wonder if there is a spray on heat barrier? The internet is a big place. Thanks all for the input.

I wouldn't consider 11 years that short term. If you have the heat shield already on there, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Maybe put a coating on the inside of the heat shield itself

Hmmm. I would say check your GM dealer but i highly doubt there are any in HI. I have 10 sitting in my living room. Take a trip to the East coast haha.

I had a turbo blanket on C5 Corvette since the hood was very close to the turbo. You could put your hand on the blanket after driving the car, does a great job of keeping the temps in.

What brand turbo blanket do you use?
Would drive to the east coast but my window seals leak a bit. : )

I actually had an occasion to view the aircraft style up close and personal, and to me - I really liked the way it looked and felt.
I was skeptical on the ads, but in person - it looks great.

Back in the day, an old trick was we used to remove the cowl rubber seal to allow heat to escape from under the hood.
Still do actually.
