The way it's looking I probably won't be painting my car any time in the near future so I've decided to throw it together with what good stuff I got laying around to make it functionable. The weatherstripping is shot so of course I don't plan on driving in the rain, that and everything is painted and clean underneath. So I guess what I'm asking is does anyone think it's a sin to parade these cars around when they look like they came from the scrap heap? And if anyone has pics post them to make me feel a little better:biggrin:

As long as there is no primer or it's all one color, should be fine.

Might be able to hustle a couple of racers for a few bucks:cool:

I don't see a problem with it. If my car was perfect I probably wouldn't drive it. The most fun I have ever had with a car was a 5.7 IROC that was not pretty but was fast.

Mine is REALLY rough. I'll try to post pics soon. I have no shame in cruising in mine, because it runs great. I plan on painting it within a year or two. The biggest problem w/ cruising a beater (while being 24) is that a lot of people try to buy the car, thinking I'll practically give it away. I usually tell em 1.5 million will take the car. Cash only :D

Ha! You and I are in the same boat except mine is not ready yet! It runs but needs a front header panel. I have bad weatherstripping and bad seats. Paint looks original and faded. No bumper fillers anywhere and sagging springs. It runs but I won't drive until front is fixed. You are in good company!

Mine's a 20 footer also. It looks great in my avatar, but up close you can see a $h|tty repaint, minor dings and dried out weather stripping.

Drive it for a week and ask yourself if you are having fun with it. If you like it don't worry about what others may say and enjoy it!!

Why not cruise it, I sure would but its about you not everyone else. SO the question is really from us to you;
Do you want to cruise a car w/ imperfections?

I would rather see a beat up one cruising around than a nice one. When you talk to the guys with beat up cars, it's fun to hear of their future plans and see their ambitions! When you see a nice one, it's just something to look at. I think the nice ones are kind of boring actually. When you see one needing work, you think about that go-kart frame you and your friend wanted to get running as a kid! Couldnt wait to make it run! Thats the funnest part....the project! Most people end up selling their cars when their done because they get bored with it. The fun part is building and talking about it to me!

my car has the typical mid 80's GM "paint falling off" problem, the doors are rusted on the bottom corners, the headliner is held up with a piece of metal strapping, and 3 of the 4 bumper fillers are broke.

I have an addiction to making these cars super nice. Problem is that once the car is done, you do tend to get a little bored looking for something else to fix...

I cruise my nice cars but they don't come out in the rain or anytime I think weather might be questionable. And I never take them anywhere but to shows or spots where I will be near the car. Yes I'm paranoid too.:D

However, I had a T that was a little more rough and we loved the car because it didn't really get that much attention. I could actually drive it to the store and work because I was never worried that anyone would actually want to steal it...;)

Guess it's all in how you look at it.

Cars are like women.......if you have a beautiful one, azzwholes are always trying to steal it. If you have a less than attractive one, you are pretty safe from everything....except drunks !!!!

Drive the wheels off of it and have fun. I like for my hood to look nice, it's the only part I can see while I'm driving.

Well put.

I have a about a 30 footer, dents, rust, faded paint, primered front fillers, primed on the header panel, 95 Impala wheels with faded center caps. My plan is to do nothing with the body, get it to run right, then throw the engine into my 240sx which already has a clean(er) body.

My car is pretty beat up. It might even be a few different colors by the time I get it together, who knows. Dent in the roof, different color hood, one rusty door, pass side of car has a light sideswipe, header panel is busted up, fillers are gone, trunk lock gone, no carpet, rear seat trashed, etc. But mechanically the car will be fine when it is assembled. It might be a rusty rattlebox but its mine:biggrin:

Let's just hope I'm not talking to you telling you about how much of an obnoxious POS it is, LOL;)

Mine has a big dent in the front driver fender where i had a blow out.(i have a spare but saving it for a paint job one day)
big crack right in front of the driver side back wheel fender down low. )bondo gotta fix that  !!
my brakes quit working on a busted wheel cylinder so it wouldnt stop in the yard & i hit my brothers truck head on (crunch!) trying to park it and couldnt stop. the impact resistant bumpers saved the front end all i need now is a driver side marker light and bezel. Back trunk lip needs put back up its down on both corners i have another, again waiting to get it painted.
And i need a paint job.
But with that said, i have a new engine, new transmission, new torque converter, new driveshaft, m/t dr. new turbo (about 4500miles) new injectors, new radiator.

And around town in this county and possibly 2 more, I have the fastest busted fendered, marker lighted, busted bezel, trunk mold hangin, bad in need of a paint job STREET driven GN around. (possibly another buick on my tail but im ok with that). some know it, some dont.
I still get the looks, thumbs up, and praise that i dont deserve about this car and they dont know the half of it. I had one guy at the gas station says " Will it run" me being modest said nahhh!!! the guy says well " They sure Use too!" I just grinned.

Another older guy @ Wal-mart said "is that the original motor in that car? I said yup 6 cyl. with a few modifications. He said back in the day "Those cars would out run the Word of God!!!!" I was like oookaaay.

"Another dude out of town " hey thats the car that use to out run those corvetts back in the day isnt it? I said yup. he said is it the same motor? i said yup 6 cyl. with a few modifications.. he said " How much you want for it!!?"

Another guy at the track,.... i dont show times. He told my brother; Yes thats that car the be runnin at the track I dont think he has the same motor is it though he has an V8 in there and he is Runnin".. My brother said " Yes thats my brother and it still has a V6 in it... " He said NOWAY! (guess he dont know about the turbo chgr)

Last but not least, I made a run then popped the hood for a cool down after a run, the guy walks away from his buddies and comes to look under the hood, he and says 'hmmmm a V6 with a turbo on it, what kind of times are you runnin tonight in the 1/8th I told him 7.30s his jaw dropped and told the buddies he just walked from "Hey You guys need to leave that car Alone and Come over HERE and look @ this dudes car !!!!!!!

You know me, im nanchalant about the whole thing but i did wonder to my self what would he have said if i told him the truth that iwas runnin 6.80s
 :D :D

Nah i dont think im ready to paint it yet.. It seems to look faster wraggedy like it is now..... If i paint it , it might slow up.
