How many remotes do you have to run your TV/Home Theatre??

We have three, one for the home theatre, one for the TV and one for the Comcast HD box. There is always one or two features that doesn't allow you to use just one remote.

Ended up buying a Harmony Remote that you plug into your computer to set it up and it supposedly works with everything. Of course, once I loaded the software it couldn't find the drivers for the remote. Always something.......

Spent way too much time on the phone with their customer support and still got no where. They are blaming it on me having Windows ME even though the disc says it supports it.

ive got a harmony remote. best money i ever spent. previously had remotes for tv, dvd, stereo receiver, vcr, dvr. was living at home at the time and my dad found it easy to use vs. trying to mess with all the remotes and making sure they are on the right inputs, etc. when i moved out, i bought them their own harmony remote to use. they have no problems with it. im using the 688.

btw, windows me sucks! at my old job there were 3-4 ME boxes at some remote sites always making life difficult.

I have this remote and love it so easy to find at night ,bump into the table and the vibration lights it up real cool color like indiglo... :smile:
the best part is touch the VCR button and only VCR buttons light up and work so no need to figure out what buttons to hit,same with TV ,CD ,etc...

I have one remote for the DVR system, its time warners digital tv that i can record 2 shows at the same time and watch another during.
I have the second remote that runs the surround system/dvd/radio/cd ect.

Of course i dont even watch much of it, just recorded if i get a chance

I use the comcast high def. remote that will contol my DVD player surround sound, HD projection TV, and stereo.

All those w/comcast, the remote they give you is very capeable one. Do some research and you'll find it will control most if not all applications.

Between me and my buiness partner, we sell 5-10 of the Harmony's a month w/o really trying. If any body is interested in one, let me know, I can get them cheaper than at the stores.

Forget spending all that money on a remote, get rid of WINDOWS ME FIRST! OMG, I'm surprised there isn't a class action lawsuit against that crap!


Once you get that Harmony going though you'll love it. They are awesome. Speaking 2nd hand of course since I used a neighbors. I can use 1 remote because I have all Sony products, but that remote is kinda complicated to operate. One day you'll just tell the wall what you want to watch and it will go there in 34.1 Dolby Surround.

I personally prefer hard button remotes for the tactile feel, then I don't have to look down for many typical tasks (eg, commercial skip).

I like the Home Theater Master line, it uses a combination of hard buttons plus hard buttons with LCD labels that can dynamically change "on the fly", depending on what "device" or "activity" is being controlled.

Nearly every key is programmable, too.

Specifically, I have 1 primary remote, the Home Theater Master MX-500. (available $100-120).

Recently I acquired a Home Theater Master MX-700, since it can be programmed by PC, but haven't set it up yet. (available $140-170).

Many of us "remote geeks" also like the utility of the cheap-ish "One for All Cinema 7" (about $20), since it is pre-programmed with many specialty codes & discrete command codes that even the OEM remotes do not have !! Then, the special code is taught to your primary remote. For $20, think of it as another "tool".

Speaking of remotes I like the RF remotes. And why o why hasn't a remote been invented so that you can push a button on the TV and the remote beeps so you can find it! If not now, its just a matter or time!

Got it set up. :biggrin: Ended up using my son's computer that has Win98 on it. Everything seems to work great. Got mine on ebay for around $70. I have the lowly H628 though.

Going to upgrade the computer to XP tomorrow.
