i had a alky kit installed in bg by mr alky himself, and running 100% methanal with fast system. wondering how much boost is common to run. one issue i have is my vdo boost gauge will read 23 psi and the map on fast will read 20psi not sure whitch one to go by.just want to get full potential out of kit , but have been told that alky doesnt work well after 20psi of boost.any advice be helpful

i've never heard alky don't work good after 20 psi. thats one of the benifits of it that you can run a good high boost. i've been to 30 or so psi with no know issues. once you tune your car you'll wonder how you ever made cit without it! remember when you tune alky just quenches knock so as u add boost add fuel and a lil alky for knock. good luck!

Keep pumping up the boost(slowly) till you see some knock. Once you do try to tune the car to get rid of it. Me personally, i like to keep it moderate on the street so i set mine to 20-21. Once i hit the track i put a little race fuel in the tank and then pump the boost way up.

I keep mine at 28#, set on "kill" all the time. Only thing I have to do at the track is lower tire pressure;)

By kill you mean kill the motor right:biggrin:
J/K thats awesome you can tune that good! Why dont you come down here and tune mine!

25psi is safe under 550hp on a single nozzle and mild timing. More nozzles more boost and power but dont let it hiccup for even a tenth of a second. As far as not making more power over 20psi, BS! I run methanol no matter what fuel i run because it makes more power if the tune is good

where is your boost gauge receiving it's boost pressure from? (where is it tee'd in at) depending on where the boost gauge is receiving it's boost pressure from I would think that the map on the fast is a more accurate reading of boost. either way you look at it, just avoid detonation.

and I agree with not making more hp over 20#'s is bs.

DAMMM!!!! you sure you can run more than 20/21#s of boost???!!! Let me go turn up the boost on Melissa's car NOW

Wow im nervous running 20-21 on my motor, but you guys make me want to crank it up:biggrin: . Just not sure with almost 80,000 on the clock.

Just breaking it in.

The fastest stock turbo car ran 11.37 on a motor with 140K miles. 28 PSI 1st gear :D

Wow thats awesome. Might be a beginner question (but i can never learn enough) how do you control boost in gears?

You were running 30lbs the day after you picked up mama's TTA:p and who knows on the 86's:biggrin:

The factory does it through the 3rd gear switch in the transmission. It also uses this switch for converter lockup.

So the WG solenoid on the passenger VC is modulated differently when it hits 3rd gear reducing boost.
