I need to ship my transmission. Has anybody done this? Anybody know how much it weighs? Who sells crates? Also need suggestions for transmission builders. I'm leaning towards Jimmy's in Illinois since he is about 3 hours away. Really don't want to take a day off of work to drive it to him, then go back to pick it up. Two round trips with price of gas over $4 isn't cheap.

Band it....

to a skid and call ups to pick it upand deliver. You may have to help put it in the truck. wt.185#approx.

Rick, go with Jimmy's!!!!! They did mine and it shifts great, takes plenty of abuse, and the price was very good.

Call Jimmy,
He is good and quick. Might be able to do it while you wait. Just need to talk to him.

Thanks Tom. I emailed a couple people (you were one of them) and got no response. I thought maybe Jimmy lost his touch or something. I talked to him and he said he has two prices- $1700 and $2200. I might already have good parts that don't need to be changed out. He won't know until he looks at it. I wanted to keep my bellhousing if it is numbers matching, but I can't find the numbers! Also someone painted it red. I also need my converter restalled. It is 3200 now, would prefer 2800. Does anybody do that locally? Jimmy doesn't restall converters. As for shipping, I called Fedex and they can pick it up at my house. $122 each way to Mundelein. I would need to build a crate, they said no pallet. I have another option possibly. Spoke to a guy today who lives near me. Someone recommended him to me. He used to work at Aamco. Of course he is not a 2004R expert but I told him to read up on the transmission thread (written by Bruce Toelle) and if he understands it he should call me. I could buy Bruce's parts if needed. Would be great if he rebuilds it in my garage and we install it the same day.
