A few days ago I got around to installing Casper's audible knock alarm.

I tried tapping on the knock sensor to get the alarm to sound like the instructions describe. ...and got nothing.

***Can't I just unplug the knock sensor and jump the harness to ground with the key on?

I know my original knock sensor works because I have seen timing get pulled while looking at the PowerLogger.

I used the Ign terminal in the fuse box to power the alarm. A test light showed it is getting power. I'm sure I have it wired correctly. It's not rocket science. ....but one never knows..

I'd like to hear this thing sound off before I start thinking its gonna work.

Start the car and have someone hold the rpm's at 2000 -2500,take a long 3/8 drive extension and a hammer and tap near the knock sensor not on it.

Thanks for the advice. No matter what,I can't get this thing to sound off.

Beating next to it with a 12in extension and a 3lb hammer... Nothing.

It's in the IGN terminal in the fuse box, tested good with a test light.
The black is on a clean chassis ground.
The trigger wire is tapped into the pink with black stripe... Not the purple.

Can't this thing be false-triggered electrically?

I'm afraid this gadget is going to end up in my *Worthless Things I Bought For The GN* box. ...like that Autometer fuel gauge isolator I bought last year.

When I have the PowerLogger hooked up,I see the ECM pull timing during a knock event.

So,I'd have to figure it works.

Thanks for the reply.

I thought the trigger wire was yellow with a black stripe?

Take it off the wire you have it on, and touch the trigger wire to a good ground source rapidly while the other two audible gauge wires are powered up, IE Key on test car not running.

Double check the instructions for the proper trigger pin at the ECM harness.

It can't be... How in the he I did I screw that up?!

So,the yellow-black to the yellow-black. I'm not sure where I got "tap into pink with tracer" from.

Alright,I'm headed to my garages to see exactly what I did.

Yeah,I've done all of my own work (from stock) to this car so far, including the body bushings. But apparently I can't hook two of the same color wires together. lol

Alright... I did nothing wrong according to these directions that I have here. These directions differ from the link that Kevins sent.

My directions sheet looks exactly the same,however..

In the 3rd paragraph: "Locate the wire at the A6 terminal (Pink/Black stripe). Strip back about 1/2 inch of insulation from this wire, about 2 inches from connector. You may need to peel back some of the tape wrapped around the wires. You will solder the Yellow/Black stripe wire from the audible unit to this wire."

Did Casper's misprint this?? If anyone doesn't believe me,shoot me an email at otisdavidson@yahoo.com and I'll send you a pic of these instructions.

Now I'm gonna splice into the cars yellow with black stripe wire and see what happens.

Why me??

I soldered the yellow-black to the yellow-black. Not the pink-black like these other directions say.

It still doesn't work. Tried the grounding trick. Tried grounding the knock sensor wire. Checked power and ground. All good.

I probably fried it due to these wrong directions.

Another epic fail.

Update: I took my GN to a nice place to do some soft launches and work setting Boost and using the PowerLogger.

As I eased into it,boost built quickly... Then all of the sudden the Knock Alarm went off.

My knock counts were 14 as I reached the top of 2nd at 3/4 throttle. So,I guess the alarm works. The only way I could get it to work was a real knock event.

I still have to call Casper's and find out what the deal is with the wrong directions.

Thanks for all of the help!
