Another thing to add is that USA alloys of steel are the best out there for crankshafts and although overseas may have a very close alloy it's not the same as a USA alloy. Billet cranks are an entire different animal than anything that is available from overseas.

A gn1 crank when built right will do well over 1000hp in a 109.

Id be more worried about the block than the crank.

I disagree Bison. when a company contracts a manufacturing company to build a specific item, the contracting company can choose the quality of metals that are being used in the product. Now if that company chooses to cut corners with it then yes you get a low quality product.
No bashing intendid. Saying its made in the US doesnt mean its the best. Ive seen some really shitty stuff built here and vice versa

This is where I've wondered for a long time just how "forged" these Buick cranks are.
After reading the Speed Talk thread I posted the link to,it kind of confirms what I suspected about them.
They may be better than stock but how good are they?
The way I see it,if I was a vendor and wanted some to sell,I would contract the manufacturer to make me a batch.
The description of what I sell would be based on what I ordered and not necessarily what it was.
Is anyone really checking these things or are they just shipped over prepackaged?

I will agree that US suppliers make some of the best alloy for cranks,but I have heard a lot of good about the Euro' guys as well .... although I doubt they make cranks for Buicks too often..

Some of the top manufactures source cranks from china. My scat 9000 series crank shaft is prime example. My buddy in florida builds a lot of high power 2jz engines and some of the big name companies also source cranks from china.

We can debate crankshafts till blue in the face. The typical mega hp v6 engines use billet cranks. They use them for a reason. Their not looking to see how far a Chinese forging will go. They are looking to win races. There definitely are a couple forged ones out there over 1000hp. There's a BMS that's made a few passes at 8.0 and many 8 sec passes and still going strong.
