I'm growing tired of Black. I have been contemplating a color change on one of my GN's since I can't find the right T-Type... Odd huh?

This is an 86 GN with digital dash and T-Tops. Enginetrans are being built to the hilt and hopefully I'll still have enough money to do a killer suspension. Interior is already completely re-done in GN Black & Grey.

I'm wondering if I'm just crazy for not repainting everything black especially considering it's one of 5512 made.

I was thinking about an oddball color but I want to be able to use the GN interior and have it still match. My only restriction is no Red or bright blue. Other than that, I'd consider other colors. (I've already had white and grey too so I'm not terribly interested in those either.

Am I crazy to even consider this? Any ideas or suggestions?

I'd leave it BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine is going to be wrapped Jesse James Murder Black. It's a deeper less charcoaly looking type of flat black.

I was thinking about the satin finish but it's still black...

Just looking for something different.

It's your car!!! Do whatever you want!!!!!!! I like the WH1/first gen GN paint jobs.

Who cares if it's black after a repaint anyways? Everyone always wants to ding you on not having it orig anyways, so you might as well go all the way! Plus, if you aren't gonna sell it anytime soon...REALLY don't worry about it!

I considered a color change when I had my car painted in January. Ultimately, I left it black. BUT, I looked into 2000 Viper gray. That color is stunning and would look bad ass on a GN IMO.

The black trim would still look really good against the gray.

Another option... Corvette Electron Blue.

And the new dark gray on the current Vette is sweet.

I figure these colors would still work well with your interior also.

What about doing a two tone. Black / silver, or black / electron blue?

My opinion is that a GN needs to be black, as that is a main component of its identity. After all, You wouldn't put your brother in a dress and then call him your sister ;) . That being said, It is your car to do with as you wish.

Keeping with tradition, I would recommend a black main color, with some sort of contrasting color for highlights/graphics. For example- Black with ghost flames, or some type of metalflake black, or black with a colored pearl overcoat. I also think that a later GN painted with a close custom variation of the 1982 Grand National paint scheme would be cool......

+1. I had looked into this as well.

Basically this car's paint scheme, just adjust the colors. Where this one is silver, go Viper gray. And instead of a red break-line between the black and gray, use Electron Blue.

Thanks guys for all of the responses. Generally, I would always go with black- Most of my other cars including my other TR's are all black.

Original paint was crap and when I get my TR's painted they go to the metal and get done the right way.

I'm just getting tired of all black all the time. I have a really nice grey one and a white one as well. I'd like to be practical with the decision -ie considering that everything have to be reprayed to make it right (jambs, under the hood & trunk lid, engine bay...) It's a lot of work and it's not cheap.

However, this is a car with a bunch of miles that will basically be made new again. The frame is coming off and being powdercoated and everything is gonna be new.

I really like the yellow beige or the sage colors but I doubt they would match very well and would be a PITA to repaint...

I like the greys you posted Barron- oh by the way- Everytime I see your car, I want to tell you I hate you!~ j/k - It's freakin' awesome. Maybe I'll need to make a Barron Clone...

I'm also still torn about doing a satin job. Maybe I can get away with less waxing?

Decisions, decisions...

Thank you VERY much, turbo! :D I can provide you with the parts list needed for a Barron-Clone if you like!

You're VERY welcome Barron! You did an excellent job. I'm sure it cost a few pennies too...

I've been kicking around the idea of a GNX clone but I'd hate to do half a job and don't really think I want to drop $2k on the rear end work.

You, on the other hand really did it right. I love the gauges. I did matching gauges in my GN with the various pods but I really like the GNX style dash - my big gripe is always the money I have to spend to make it all possible.

I'm in the process of building a forged/girdled powerplant for this future beast of a car and have just been wodnering if I want another black TR. I hate to ruin a GN by making it a different color but I can't seem to find anyone with the right color car to buy or trade with.

Barron: If you get a chance please PM me- I have a few questions for you...

I've seen D J Red Barron's car and pics don't do it justice!!!! One of the best paint jobs as well as VERY tasteful modifications!!!!!!!!!!!

I REALLY appreciate the kind words. :) Yea, it did run a few pennies. But it has been worth every single one spent.

That reminds me... I have to start making the wish list for my rear end work and suspension goodies. It's a never-ending project! LOL!

I'd love to get ahold of that powerplant you have going in that beast. I'm stock with a few minor bolt-ons (for now :D ).

PM headed your way.

Thanks a LOT, Mark! :D Yours is a beauty, too. It's like stepping into a time capsule every time I see your '86.

GN's look really really nice with in black with the color plum crazy accenting all the lines of the car, ie: fender trim and body lines. Its like a purple color.

I like the viper and dark ZR1 gray too. 5000 is not rare for a turbo regal and seriously, your not going to retire on selling it just cuz its black. Do what you want. Or you can wait till your dead an ddo it the next time around.
