I took my intake off yesterday and will re-install this week but there is a lot of gasket maker/sealer on the from and rear and some on the heads. Any tips on removing the old gasket crap? I was going to fill head intake ports with rags and cover the block with rags so as not to get any debris. I am also going to attach a wire brush to my drill or angle grinder and go at it, any tricks? Engine is IN car.

Do the rags as you said but forget about the wire brush. Get a razor blade and go at it by hand. Then go back over it with scotchbrite if necessary to get it satisfactory. Makes it much easier to control where the debris goes.

X2 works great!

put a small amount of the black silicone (can't remember which kind) on the two ends of the front rubber and rear rubber where they meet the valley pan. this will ensure no leaks.

intake reseal

exactly like eric said.and i go a step further.carefully tuck the rag edges in all the little places like, just under the edge of the heads.i take a can of brake or carb clean and soak the rags down.this will aid in catching almost all the debris.and do it by hand with a razor blade scraper.then once done, carefully pull the edges of the rags towards the center and gather them all up.then carefully look inside the intake valley and wipe out ANY debris you see.ive been doing lower intake reseals for years.many many many intakes on everything, ive never lost a lower end after an intake reseal, but i have seen it happen lots of times to others cause they dont take the time to be clean.it's all about the clean.;)

One thing i forgot to mention was the front seals were only silicone or gasket maker, do i use the rubber seals with the new gasket or trash them like small block chevys and use right stuff or equal?

Thanks for replies everyone, i really appreciate it.

I asked that same question when I did mine, and everyone said use the seals, with the O2 safe RTV in the corners as already mentioned above.

do a search (permatex gasket remover) excellent when you have used RIGHT STUFF,,melts it right up

I just use a dual action grinder and get all the old crud off really quick and blow all the grindings down into the crankcase before i seal it up. I let the filter get everything that gets down there.

but blowing all the grindings down into the crankcase...

I had a oil pump seize when a piece of gasket some how made it past the pickup screen, and try to keep all foreign parts out.
