I am bored and was putting in part numbers on GMpartsdirect and I found an 86-87 shortblock for $1575?

25527476 (put in search box)

I plugged that number in and got nothing??...I highly doubt they have short blocks...I think they were discontinued back in 91...

That part number crosses to nothing.

When I was looking for a front cover the other day online I saw a GM 3.8 shortblock still available. Not sure of the number

That link doesn't work. I just looked again and got the actual full page address and it still won't link. Looks like they just have 4.3s though and the 3.8s are marked as N/A.

you guys have to select "Buick" on the main page, put in 87 regal etc..........THEN put in 25527476 in the search box and it comes up......trust me it works........

Engine - Cylinder block

It says engine code '9'. Was that wrong wheel drive? The turbo is '7', and a I thought that the NA was 'A', although I could be wrong. (It happened once before.)

Edit: Correction: That is what it says if you enter 87. If you enter 86 for the year, it says 231-7. This can't be right. Can it?

LOL I'm just posting what I see............I'm not saying this is true but can someone confirm this??? Does GM really make this stuff and we just don't know about it? Or is this all N/A stuff? But why would they make N/A stuff and not Turbo stuff?

Order 5 & see what happens?? BUT I doubt it! Hope you get lucky!!

LOL hmmmmmmmm lets see whats behind door number 5! sounds like all these parts may or may not be real? anyone work at GM can confirm this nonsense? or can I really still buy a 3.8 shortblock

PM turbofish and find out. It would be a great secret if no one knew about this.

Im sure you can buy a G.M.rebuilt 3.8 vin 7.I worked for Advance Auto Parts and lost a sale to a local dealership just last year.Hope this helps:)

Part number 25527476 is the correct number for the VIN 7 shortblock but it is discontinued. I'm guessing somebody had one stashed away and $1575 would have been a steal today as that is probably what the dealer cost was back in the early 90's before it went discontinued. No way you can get it through GM today anyway.

You know one of the myths associated with the TTA was that GM had quite a stock pile of these blocks with which they used to build the 1500 TTAs. I never believed it anyway. But I do remember hearing stories of dealers hoarding them to make a quick buck. I bet there were 100's of them out there at one time. Like GM almost knew that there would be a demand for them. If you're a regular browser of eBay you'd probably notice that at least one of them turn up at least once a year anyway.:)

I knew it probably sounded too good to be true. If it sounds that way, it probably is! That sucks, what a deal that would be. Oh well, everyone will be running stroker shortblocks soon anyway:tongue:

I bought a short block back around 97 or 98 I think, just a month or two before they were all gone. It was a good deal, like $1300 or so, compared to getting mine rebuilt.

My recollection is that one of the lube oil companies, Pennzoil I think, bought up a huge amount of them because they decided to use the V6 as their spec engine for testing their oil. The supply of shortblocks would have last a lot longer if it hadn't been for that. I'm sure that's back in the archives somewhere. I remember seeing a pic of their lab, with a bunch of V6's.
