Okay I tried to resist for the last few hours, but the roads look clear enough in my neighborhood to take the GN out. I thought I could make the long haul and let her sleep until spring but today is too nice out. We got around 40 degrees the last two days, so between the melting snow and rain we had I'm not too worried about road salt!

Good! Now your car wont rust from all the salt and sand packed in the doors

If my turbo was back from rebuild I would have mine out today for sure. Close to 50* here today and sunny.:frown:

Jiggled my MAF wiring for a few seconds and started the car up again and it was fine. Code 34 is still stored but the light wasn't on and no more running rough. Drove it for a good 20-30 minutes.

I'll admit some of the main roads still had more salt dust than I expected, but no big deal. Did a walk-around when I got back home and only had a dot or two of salt that managed to stick behind the rear tires. Dusted it off for now will probably give it a wipe-down tonight.

Overall better than being trapped in the house with family the entire day! :p

Ha! I could not resist either. 40 degrees on Christmas in Chicago. Pulled the GN out around 4pm. Just got home. I would still be out but the heater core let loose. Fogged the windows instantly.

U and Rick are both Knuckleheads!

Taking the cars out when the streets have so much salt on them is a disaster waiting for a place to happen. Spinning the tires then getting sudden traction will have ur car at Jimmys for a rebuild. Its just too nasty out there--even the Crown Vics I drive at work blow up the tires from 20mph. Smoking one of those transmissions wont cost me a penny though;) . Im just jealous cuz my junk is all apart.:D .

Haha I wasn't being too hard on the car today anyway, just taking advantage of the weather to get the fluids circulating and go for a drive.

Yeah, I was sitting here undecided about taking it for a drive, then I saw you mention in the Tech forum that you were thinking of taking your car out, so I said screw it at least I'm the only one thinking about it.

Where are the pics?

Actually had my camera with me but didn't want to risk pulling over to take pictures just in case the MAF started acting up again or the battery wasn't charged enough to start the car again. Had to jump it to get it out of the garage.

Just loop the lines going to and fro the heater, its ALMOST spring time and you can do without for almost another year. LOL:D

ha!!!! how come it's mostly chicago guys looking to take their cars out today? I actually went out to the garage, started the car up and just went up and down the drive to move things around a bit. I almost went for a drive but am kind of freaky about letting salt get on my car so I decided not to.

I used to just do the old winter driveway start-up but I've been reading lately that it does more harm than good, you need to actually drive the car to purge out the moisture that has gathered in the engine. If you just warm up the car for a few minutes and then pull it back into the garage and it cools off again, the moisture is going to condense inside the engine and maybe rust certain components. Not sure if any of it is the truth but I felt like driving mine anyway!

This is true but as long as you get it to full temp it's all good. You would not believe the moisture that cold steel holds.

Its nice to exercise the drive train as well. Not good to let bearings, ball joints and brake parts, sit. Makes me think about that $100,000 GNX with no miles it.

Chuck, thought about you when the heater core blew. ;) Ever fix yours?

Drive the GN two days in a row?! I spoil myself!!! :D

It's even warmer today than yesterday! I'll take it out to pick up my GF.

You drug addicts need rehab. :) Just kidding, I thought about it, but held out. Had my Impala out last week when it was nice, felt good. Did get a little salt, going to try a hold out until streets are normal.

Rick, I know about that fog, did my heater core in the summer.
