... USB cables? I've got a new (serial-less) Compaq Presario that I'd like to use T-Link on, so I can release my old laptop to someone else. What would one need as far as cabling goes? Is there a way to get a single cable from you (ALDL -> USB)?

Nope, gotta use an adapter. We have to redesign the entire board to add USB and don't have the bandwidth right now for that.

I've used a couple of the Belkins, a "no name", a DeLuo, and we were selling the Purple Computing adapter with good success.

Some of the adapters (like the Purple Computing) won't support the baud rate for the P4 cars (which is why we don't sell them any more... they work fine for the TRs, but not the F-bodies, Impalas, etc).

We're going to be making an announcement here very soon regarding some of the stuff we've been doing.

Looking forward to it! :)

Ken,

I've gotta do something - my old K6-333 laptop keeps locking up 5 seconds *before* I can save a run. EVERY time! Can you say frustration?

So what do I want on the other end of the USB cable?

Thanks!

I'd love to ... gimme more information?

Also, it's not the software (honest!) :)

What else is going on or is configured on that machine. We've not seen this on anything else, so I need DETAILED information so we can try to recreate it.

The software has been pretty stable ... have you installed VehiclePak 6

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I need to buy a USB -> ??? cable so I can use my new Presario laptop, which has every port you can imagine EXCEPT a serial port. :( I'm hoping I can get a cable that will eliminate all or some of the other "connections" I currently have: ALDL -> parallel -> adapter block -> serial. I really hate to add yet another adapter!

On my old Prostar, I recently reformatted and re-installed Win'98SE and T-Link 4.0, vehicle pak 4. That (along with the old 2.13) is all that's on that machine. It's real slow to boot and often loses connection with ver 4.0 (never happens with 2.13), so I'm thinking it's either the 'puter going south or the mass of cables/adapters causing my grief...

Ken,

Got the new ALDL "block" in yesterday and went looking for a USB adapter (didn't realize ya'll had one for sale on the web). I found them ranging from $60 down to $15. The more expensive ones have a driver disk, which begs a new question - are there "active" and "passive" adapters or does it even matter?

A reader posted on your T-Link forum about the "Keyspan" brand ($29) adapter not working with his laptop. The only one I could find locally was a $59 Belkin at Office Depot, so I ordered a cheapy from Dalco because it was compact in size as well as price. I did notice this one requires a CDROM drive, so maybe it's got drivers, too. I'll post back on whether or not it works.

Hi All!

The cheapy Dalco adapter in the above thread works just fine! :D  :D That unit comes with a mini-CD for a driver disc and the only fault I can find with it is the mount screws are permanently installed, so I had to pull the mount screws out of Ken's new adapter in order for the two serial plugs to mate up.

I did have a T-link question - see the above thread for details on my BLM and INT problems...

Thanks!
