Two Q's:

1 - Is a noticeable delay (~2-3 seconds) after throwing a manual switch common, or do converters typically lock instantly?

Mine delays, whether cruising or WOT.

2 - Can I get some feedback on the RPM drops experienced (let me know what converter), and also the time lag to full lock up (in time or MPH).

Me: 9/11 ~3200 stall
Recorded RPM drops: 650 from 4950, 750 from 4900, 900 from 4750
I'll gain ~10mph during lockup over ~1.15-1.35 second span.

(hehehe... Bruce was a tad perturbed that I didn’t just call him ‘bout the delay. Friggin’ guy. Like he doesn’t have enough to do in the average day without my piddley-ass questions! Here’s a guy who busts his butt 100+ hours a week in the shop, continually goes out on a limb (financially & time wise) developing parts, then spends his precious spare hours on tb.com monitoring posts and answering Q’s, but still insists on making time for me... calling me. A fine example of why my business, and recommendations, go to him. Service, my friends, service. You can have the best prices in the world, but if the service isn’t there, neither am I, because even though I’m over the hill, I’m stupid enough to still need questions answered.)

My l/u performs the way it does because that’s the way Bruce set it up based on my answers to his questions 2 years ago when he first built my tranny. I didn’t want it bangin’ during everyday cruising, and it doesn’t… ‘till I step on the loud pedal. If I want it to lock NOW, that can be taken care of. This car is set up as a daily driver that I can toss the keys to anyone to drive, including my wife, her visiting family from Europe, or my 63 year old mother. OK, so it may unintentionally chirp second on occasion when they drive it, but what the hay, this car is more for “spirited driving” anyway! :)

I would still like some feedback on Q#2, though, in the interest of my edumacation. I currently have no intention of losing the 9/11 (it has taken a friend of mine to 11.60s & 119+ mph), but I would like to know how this stacks up to some other converters out there, should I change my mind. (I won’t be surprised if Bruce calls me again, saying I should have just asked him. hehehe)
