You'll probably find the main bearings toasted with that much trash in the oil. Wrong clearances, line bore, ect. Now get off here and go open that thing up and let us know !!!

So this weekend I decided to get off my ass and start the tear down. I have the whole engine bay ready for removal.
All fluids have been removed and the intake as well to reduce weight. At first glimpse at the cam it looks good. I will eventually tear it apart to see where the failure was. Right now i just want to concentrate on getting the car running.

here are a couple of pics of the cam sensor. It looks good to me.

Is this how the washer is supposed to press down on the cam sensor? It doesn't look right but I cannot remember.

thats not the correct washer bolt setup for cam sensor , washer should be larger and it should rest on the ledge of the timing cover and base of cam sensor

I did have later noise but not that bad. The noise was definitely bottom end and my metal in the oil pics show what appears to be bearing material. At first I thought it was the transmission. It was right in that area.
There is definitely a bad rod bearing. I should have this motor out this week time permitting. I pull the pan and timing cover and check things out.

thanks

Evil,
Yup wrong washer on there but keep us posted as to what you find or better yet some pics.of bearings and crank when you get it apart. I know at this point this is WAY low on your priority list but I have the correct washer and bolt for your cam sensor that you can have. Your cam sensor looks fine and your wear pattern is right in the center of the gear. Later, Mike

I took more stuff apart today. Here are some pics.
Besides a little wear on the front cam bearing things look ok. So i think.
The cam itself is fine.
Is that wear on the cam gear normal?
Once I get it out of the car i'll take the pan off and see what went wrong.

Off to work now.

This really sucks........especially with the weather just starting to get right.

:( That sucks.

Motor is out and I took the heads off. Piston walls look fine. Plugs seem ok. I'll take the pan off tomorrow.

Is there anything out of the ordinary? I see allot of carbon on the diamond pistons.

Let me ask a simple question. Was this motor primed before start up? or was everything installed with all the fluids and fired up when everything was finished? What oil pressure did you have at start up? and how long did it take to come up?

I primed the oil with the primer tool thru the cam sensor hole. I could hear oil squirting in the heads. Allot.

Oil PSI would go to about 70 on start up instantly and after warm up it would be around 25 at idle.

Sounds like you did everything right. Your going to have to take this up with your builder and hopefully you can find the root of this problem.

hmmmm.. ya had this problem in Oct last year . Builder goin to stand by it now 8 months later ?? o_O

It's been three years Grumpy. It just takes so long trying to get everything right.

No one is standing by this. It's sad too. There is under 1000 miles on this.

Here is the damage. Both center main bearings are toast. They are after market steel caps.

the other main bearings seem a bit worn as well.

All the rod bearings were fine.

Atleast it looks like everything I put together was good. What a shame.

here are some pics.

Off to work now.

did they bolt the billet main caps on and not line bore the block after or something

i wonder if they used the same studs in the same locations during the line bore..... if they pulled the studs after the line operation to clean and tossed them all in a can and they got mixed up that may have caused the issue. some engines are sensitive to this - other are not...

Engine builders suck. Ive never found one that would stand behind their work.

You got to have someone who knows what they are doing or this is what happens. The line bore is off.

That sucks. :(
