I got a new headliner from Kirban and the precut hole in the plastic is about 6 inches farther back then where my map light goes and from pics I've seen the standard dome light is farther back. Am I shit out of luck. I don't want to cut the hard plastic. Just do away with it and get rear view mirror lights?

On a fully assembled map/dome light car, the distance from the back edge of the front molding to the front edge of the map/dome light bezel is 25". Be sure to check which way the headliner is being installed, easy to get the front & rear of the headliner mixed up.

Yeah, the hole in the plastic doesn't match up. 32 inches. I got the front because there are holes for visors

The hole in the plastic is for the dome light. If you have the map light, measure and cut for the map light.
Most cars have the dome light that's why the plastic is pre cut for it.

I was too scared to cut the plastic so now I have no light. Can i just get a dome light and cut it in? Does it use different mounting holes?

If I'd known this I'd taken it somewhere. Other than the hole being in the wrong place everything else was pretty easy. Lot of work, but not complicated. Trying to cut that thick plastic in the right spot and not tearing up the material was just beyond my comfort zone.

Either way you'll have to pull down the headliner slightly. You'll have to run the wire for either one.

Just take your time and measure and re measure and use a sharp knife and you'll be fine.

i use a roto zip with a spiral cutter bit

just lay your old headliner on the new to get the location and shape that needs to be cut

Trust me, that crossed my mind but the old one was torn out 5 years ago and is long gone.

You can see that bracket that holds the map light forward in the dynaliner picture. I had to remove it.

It's quite amazing. Well worth the $100. Like 30 for Dynomat which you only cover 30% of the area with and 70 for the dynaliner that insulates everything. After going a while without a headliner in Houston I can tell you how ridiculously hot the roof gets and how hollow it sounds.

Sometimes life is about being out of your comfort zone.......if you have enough confidence in yourself and patience, and think, I truly believe you can pull if off......then, the end results will be a pure confidence builder for you, and you'll feel so damn good by accomplishing something like this....I'd say, go for it....just reason it out, measure twice, cut once, THINK, and you'll come out a winner. Life is not easy sometimes, and really a bitch at times....but, damn the turbos, full speed ahead, I say. Go for it.

Damn, I wish I thought of the Dynomat when I put in my headliner......that is one great idea you had........see? I didn't THINK ahead! Capishe?:grumpy:

Well, I thought I had the wrong headliner to begin with, and my thought process was I'd rather do without then ruin the headliner. The issue is the headliner curves up at the front and back so it's not measuring a straight line and if your off half an inch your sol. That coupled with the fact I had nothing to cut the hard plastic with and my car was torn apart led me to just put it in without,

I believe that the only place I saw a headliner for a map light was Highway Stars. Their site is down right now so I can't check it.

That's awesome. I'll just sell mine and get that one then if they ever get their website working. By the way, your picture makes me want that old chevy in the background, lol.
