Might be out of Buick's for a while

I might make a trade for an built '87 Cutlass. I'ts hard to pull the trigger, but it's too sweet a deal to pass up.

My car is a mutt '84 with LC2, normal bolt ons which should get me into the high to mid 11's but have only been mid 12's. I love my car but it takes so much time to tune and is so tempermental. This Olds is exactly where I want to be when the Buick is done but will cost a fortune to get there. I think I can make the deal for my car a 2K cash.

Tell me I am an idiot to pass this up. I can always sell it and buy a finished turbo car.

I tend to think that you always get way more for your money when you buy a car that allready has the speed parts you want on it. People take huge losses when they sell cars like that and for you to duplicate it would indeed cost a fortune.

The key is knowing what you are buying and getting into which I'm guessing you do.

I wish I had pics, I think everyone would call it a no brainer. This is as nice a car as I've ever seen. If it were a camaro or chevelle and built like this, I think it would fetch 20- 30K. When I say best of everything, I mean it. It's even got the MSD box in the glove box on an aluminum tray that slides out.

By the way, it runs 11's on pump gas.

I think I'll do it. Hopefully pics of my new ride will follow shortly along with a farewell to turbo cars for a while.

I'd say do it. If you really wanna go fast like that the buick is the wrong car to do it with. And ditto on buying stuff already done. My car ran 10's when I bought it and after the next round of mods I'll have dumped close to $30K in it plus the car. I just couldn't find one done to my liking so I will build my own.

Bad news. The guy is getting offers in the 15-17K range depending on what goes with the car. I can't hang with that kind of cash offer. I've known the guy for a long time, so I'm not gonna make him stick to our verbal agreement. If he wasn't a friend, I'd make him eat it. I guess nice guys finish last.

I now have a renewed dedication to finish my car. I got plenty of pics of the Cutlass. The guy who built the car does great work.

thats why I think about stuff for 5 min ..then if I want it I buy it .. many times seller's get the "maybe I can get more $$$$$ syndrone" after they think about it Hey it's not the last car out there you will be interested in believe me Just focus back on the Buick :biggrin:

It goes 9's, if you read what he posted. Also, it goes 11.0, which is going to take more than "few K" to do in a TR. Thats borderline on the 10 second barrier and is a far cry from 11.9. It also goes 11.0 on pump gas, also rare for a TR.

I agree with Grumpy, if you want it bad, either do the deal asap or if you must, make arrangements to have it held with a deposit or whatever. I almost always do the deal immediately. A couple months back I found a very bad ass 2004 Chevy truck, very low mileage, lowered, spotless, mechanically perfect, and I instantly loved it. But instead of buying it on the spot, on this friday afternoon at almost closing time, I decided to wait till monday to see if I still wanted it. I decided I did and called first thing monday A.M. It was gone. You snooze, you lose.

It wasn't actually the 11's on pump gas that I wanted. It was the fact that the car was finished. I might get around to putting some pics up because I think it would give everybody some good ideas for their G Body. The cage was immaculate. The dash was total race style with Auto -Meters accross the board and a professionally printed rocker switch panel for all the accessories. Underneath, all suspension parts were powdercoated and all the heims were polished.

What i really liked about the car was the sheet metel work in the trunk and engine bay. All done in black and attached w/ dzus fasteners.

I could go on for pages, but in the end it's just a car. There's more out there, and besides, I really didn't want to get rid of my mutt Buick.
