I just installed a set of lifters in my stroked 109 last night and it is very noisy ,,,I set preload to .025 and would like to go to .040 ,,,,,,I have not gone on the road yet but have started and stopped it a couple of times covers are not on rockers ,,,,I am useing TD rockers.....oil is flowing up pushrods,,,,,,,,OPINIONS.

it takes a while to purge all the air out of hydraulic lifters sometimes.

How long have you had it running?

Make sure your pushrods are not rubbing.

I have heard that T&D's can be a source of noise, although I'm not sure why this would be true.

you guys have a motor thats not even near stock and ya expect it to be as quiet as a Cadillac  Get a better radio and speakers :p OR just sell the Buick an get a Caddy

Off and on probly half an hour ,,,I am trying to purge the lifters of all air,,I cannot locate the noisy ones ,this is why I would like to give an extra 1/4 turn tight also my geomtry is a bit off as i am showing about 3 to 4 threads on my adjustment screw ,,,I would rather see 2 to be right on....RIGHT KNOW MY CC LOOK PRETTY GOOD

TURBOBOB AND GRUMPY WOULD YOU GO TO FORTY THOU ,,,,I DONT SEE WHY NOT..:confused. OR MORE.....THESE ARE CHEV LIFTERS.

Same set up as i had with the cc roller lifters ,,,,champions heads shorter pushrods had 8.200 went to 8.050

I do not have a problem with .040 I like that better in fact. I ma measuring up a Morel today I your pushrod may be off which will make it noisy I will post what I find
Mike

do we know what the total travel is of the Morel lifters.

The story I heard years ago is that Buick lifters had .100 internal travel since the valvetrains were not adjustable. But Chevy lifters had less for the opposite reason.

What does Morel spec for a preload?

With aftermarket stuff, who knows.....?

did you prefill the lifters?

B

When i got them i put them in a pail of oil overnight to fill up and some did not ,,,,,SOOOO i took a pushrod a tried to pump some of them up by hand in the oil ..I could not pump them them up by hand but ,I did notice that there is enough travel for major preload

If you have a pumper type oil can it is easy to fill them from the side oil hole.
Mike

Never prefilled a lifter in the GM dealers I worked in the seventys...GEE thats a long time ago, maybe its time to sell this buick beast.

I have a noisy 218/212 roller. It had the Comp lifters and I swapped them out to Morels. I increased the preload from .025 to .050. No difference in noise level.

You answered your own question right here...Your geometry is off and when you have the adjustment screw turned in past 1 thread showing on the bottom then it cuts off the oil to the rocker.

GET LONGER PUSHRODS.
