I notch my frame to the seam to fit a 325 dr & now it's time to either put ford ends on my 8.5 rear with weak small tubes or spend money on a moser 12 bolt.
Has anyone here put a moser 12 bolt in their car? what did u think of it? I've read some negitive stuff about mosers jig being off on mounting of lower control arms & shocks?

I wouldn't mind saving money & just put ends on my stock rear with new axles , but not sure that's the way to go?

Don,

I had to........

Only you would know the measurement to a thou!!! That is a compliment!

It's surprising how much difference a fraction of an inch makes in the IC.

Just wondering how you measured it Donnie. Is that from the centerline of the axle or total difference?
The measurement with the Moser housing was done by measuring from the floor to the center point of the upper mounting. That is with 29.5 x 10.5 - 15W MTs aired to 9.25 lbs. I'll get you the exact number when I'm at the shop. It's on my laptop.
How I got the stock housing number, I don't quite remember. I may have measured the old housing when it was out on the floor, from axle centerline to the center point of the upper mounting, then did some fancy math to get a number I could use to compare with the Moser. At least with the exact number, you'll be able to do your own fancy math.

The measurements I have are 20.375 for the Moser housing, and 18.71 for the stock housing.

Thanx Donnie did the change in IC have a negitive effect on your car hooking after rear swap? I would think moving the ears that high would make it hit the tires very hard?

Actually, it put the IC in a very good general application spot, IMO. After playing around with different IC positions, I ended up with something very close to where the original Moser IC started out. I ended up shortening the IC up just a bit compared to the original Moser position.

thanx for the info, looks like I will be ordering from moser. I was concerned because i've read about mosers jig being off - control arm & shock mounts not being in the right spot & such

In my working with the IC, I did notice that the mounting locations for the lower control arms are different from side to side, height wise, but the difference makes for a slight IC offset that actually turns out to be a benefit. The offset helps to slightly counter body roll during the launch. I don't know if it's something they purposefully meant to do, but if they did, IMO it was a brilliant move, and just proves that they understand how ICs work better than most.

How about a 9"?
The nine inch results in a radical IC placement for our G bodies. Results in a hard plant of the tire. Besides, seeing that beautiful Moser 12 bolt cover is more appealing to me than the rear of a 9 inch.
The 12 bolt also eats up less hp than the 9 inch. That is well known.

8.5 has identical size pinion gear and only a slightly smaller ring...build what you already have plus the 8.5 weighs less than both 9in and 12 bolt...

I was thinking that at first but the stock 8.5 has small week axle tubes & it seems you can only get a 30 spline posi for it!
