Not too bad.

The cool thing about that AMD processor is that it will allow the OS to run well beyond the 32bit address space. I have read where it can behave like a 44 bit OS, there really isn't such a thing. Faster than the same MHZ under a true 32 bit proc but, slower than the 64 bit proc under the 64 bit version of the OS. Not a bad thing considering 64 bit OSes have have fewer vendors supporting applications for them. I have two old Alpha staions here at the house. They have lots of power, I just can't do much besides running servers or CAD systems on them. The are true 64 bit boxes with 64 OSes and weigh a good eighty pounds each.

You can greet your new freind with a trip to update.windows.com and let it grab vista SP1. I think mickeysoft is pushing it out through automatic updates now. you just can't download from their web site yet.

Also run Welcome | The PC Decrapifier

It will help you rid the machine of the little gems that HP was paid to put on there. The trials and such. For AV, you can run AVGFree.

Enjoy

Woah BOYS! holy!

Do you think he has any Idea how to do the ***T your doing, guru's\\

#1 40ty yrs is a long time too be dealing with Computers.. Don't ya think! was ETHAL listening in on the chat line???LOL

K.i.s.s. To the GURO's. Obviously were not on the space shuttle as you guy's are!

Print off all your program passwords and serial #'s etc when you get them and install when you install a program. Keep in one place!!! Buy a refurbished computor..(ACERS SUCK) don't buy a system with an O.S. your not familiar WITH! (if you don't want to. keep up your Virus ware, NOt Nortons..someone smaller..Educate yourself!!! )BUY A 100,200,300 400 GIG external Harddrive for $130 bucks and Back your S**t UP!! Extended warranty is cheap. I think 2000pro is still top of the line, never crashes etc, depends on what you want, see if you can find though!!! know one picks on Mac that much because Hackers respect them and their smaller, still formed in 76 or so! same with Virus ware All hacker's hate Norton!! read between the lines. Thats why they get hacked them self, and theses aren't SCRIPT KIDDIES

Big frigging deal if you buy a computer ,faster and faster every year, for 500 bucks they get cheaper and FASTER every time you hit the ENTER Button. What's a set of slicks worth, won't last you three yrs. Damn it!

Buy something cheap and reload it!! THEIR getting Cheaper every year and faster, Not like we,re using Zip Drives are we??? Pretty simple EH!

OBTW computors are made in different levels, get the BIZ< CASUAL <PLAY EXTREME GAME..decide what your wants are from there and carry over, you Don't got to be a FANATIC w/ 40YRS(before mother bell) to get the job done cheaper.(ALIENS>>who can Understand them)LOL

HTH, I'm not Captn Kirk you know but KISS'ds:biggrin:

There is not a single electronics manufacturer that can legally claim they are 802.11N compliant, period.

IEEE 802.11 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"802.11n is a proposed amendment which improves upon the previous 802.11 standards by adding multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and many other newer features. Though there are already many products on the market based on Draft 2.0 of this proposal, the TGn workgroup is not expected to finalize the amendment until November 2008"

It is not expected to be a standard until Nov of this year. I hope you didn't purchase MAC that is already making this claim. Once N is truly running, you can kiss battery life good-bye. I had lunch with some guys from Cisco this week. They were telling me about how some IT infrastructures have to install all new, higher amperage circuits just to support the N standard on equipment. That falls in line with everything I have seen and read about N. The only way I see abattery survivng in an N laptop is with serious bandwidth throttling. N really isn't going matter at all for a home user. What is the fastest average internet connection, 10meg? 802.11b had that covered. More than one wireless computer, go with 802.11G and you are safe. Why worry about a network card that is 30-300 times faster than your internet connection can supply.

I don't doubt that you know a few things in IT but..."Also, since it's still based on BIOS, there are going to be issues with viruses, trojans, malware, etc...."

I don't understand how a system with a BIOS (all machines have them) is any more vulnerable to system compromise? Why does the BIOS matter? Educate me one this, please. Thanks:smile:

Mac has Great Video features too!! Of coarse I'll use my other **IT for that
