Went to the track today. Only made 4 passes. I couldn't get a good launch out of it. It was hooking I just wasn't hitting the tires hard enough. I seldom get to race so I was still working on my launch technique. Without any spool and a nitrous assisted launch I had a 1.8, with spool on the foot brake (obviously not enough) and a little nitrous I hit the 1.7. No wheel spin. This was on my MT Et Drags 28x10.5

I tried the trans brake without nitrous but I wasn't building boost fast enough with it to make it work well. Only a 1.8. I may need to lean out the low end but i think I just need to work on my launch technique

FYI
This is on a bone stock 170k mile long block (except for valvesprings) Te45A, single nozzle methanol, 125 shot of nitrous that shuts off at 15 psi, around 30 psi of boost, 91 octane gas in the tank. 3" dp, powerstroke intercooler, 72 lb injectors, and a bunch of other odds and ends.

I think with a decent launch I could get into the high 6s... What do you guys think?

Its a good feeling everytime you hit the track and go faster isnt it?

7.2 would have been a 11.29 ish if you had a 1/4 mile track.

Depending on convertor, you would be going from 96 to 120-123 ish.

Turn the timing up, what is it set at?

I'll have to double check, IIRC I have it set to 24 degrees. I might try a tad more.

BTW it looks like we are putting down close to the same amount of power but you have a much better launch. Wish I could cut a 60 like that. What is your technique and tune for that 60' ?

I am running 28x9x15 et drags and the timing is 28° in first and second, and 24° in third. The 009s are at 90% duty cycle before 4800 rpm, and i think 100% above 4800rpm.

I just run up there, do a really good smokey burnout and stay calm.

Probably the best advise i have is knowing the braking point to where the car will push thru the lights due to the braking system.

On my car, i was launching at 14psi and it bogs for a split second, then takes off. The car doesnt push thru the lights.

If your running pump gas and meth, i dont know if you would be able to get that much timing in the tune, maybe if you have a good aftermarket camshaft.

If your board YouTube - 1987 Turbo Regal at KCIR for the midwest shootout
Thats the end of the burnout, and pass was at 19psi in top of second gear, and most of 3rd, then it would come back up.

If your really board, you will catch my car in this video and you can see the 11.19 pass

I wished i knew how to cut out just my car in that video, so i could copy it and put it up on youtube.com

Nice car, seems to leave very smoothly. Didn't look like what I would expect a 1.5 to look like.

I think you are right about the braking point. On my last pass which was my best I brake torqued it quite a bit more than on the other passes. I was hesitant to try that much before because I thought I would push through the lights.

I think once I get my trans brake issues worked out (the shifter is crap, transbrake is activated with the shifter) the car will probably leave the hardest on that. I have a better idea of how to launch with it now.

Are you running drag radials or slicks?

Since your convertor isnt working to spool that Te45a, have you tried the RJC style bleeder?

Your car with the 3400 stall and the Te45a is just like my 61 with the stock convertor, they both are a bit laggy and tricky to get the boost up.

How long does it take to get yours up to 5-6 psi? I bet it will improve when you start using the transbrake.

Mine takes about 6 seconds to hit 14psi, once it hits that, i was leaving and the boost started climbing.
