The headers are being test fit tomorrow I think on 3 or 4 cars. If everything clears, we'll start production shortly thereafter.

Yeah that's going to be fun.
They will be tested on at least 3 cars:
Hi mileage Hot air converted to 86-7
low mileage stock Buick.
Heavily modded 86 GN with HR Motor mounts.
If anything is questionable then we will try on a mild upgraded T.
We will also have a 3.5" down pipe to see if it clears that as well.
 
We ran into a little hiccup:confused: We had a shop do a little work to them on the car. Once off the car we realized we had to redo what they did....:mad: So I am getting that taken care of now!
 
Getting a few last minute details finished before the production run...
 
Will these headers clear a 3.5 Dp ?

Have not tried one, but I think they will. We will try one before finalized to be for sure.

I'm not tryin to knock anyone, and this is a serious question, but, since these were made specifically for 10 second and under cars, wouldnt a 3.5" downpipe be the ONLY pipe you'd consider for fitment??? Smaller downpipes and 3 bolt flanges? Shouldn't 10 second and under headers should be 4 bolt flanged, to fit with big down pipes?. I'm guessing that if they fit with 3.5" dp's, they'd fit with 2.5/3 inchers right? I dont understand why you wouldnt try that right off the bat.
 
TSM cars run 3 bolt turbos.

I have a new header design Im kicking around for 4 bolt turbos that will be very unique.
 
4 bolt turbo flange with a wastegate flange off the headers would be a killer setup. We can then run the Borg Warner Extended Tip turbos and make even more power while keeping the spool up awesome. :eek: :biggrin:

That right there might make me get off my small turbo kick and run a monster turbo.
 
Nice Headers! What would be nice is to also make them retorque friendly. It sucks having to take everything apart just to retorque the heads. Just a selling point. ;) Lookin good!!!
 
Well guys.. this thread is essentially dead. While we havent abandoned this design, its been moved to the back burner in favor of something else. I was by the fab shop today and they had just about completed the passenger side header and Im really happy with what I saw. The driver side header should be a piece of cake as they already built a really nice merge collector for it. They told me barring any complications, they should have the headers done next week.

As these were built on a car, we havent had any fitment issues with downpipe clearance so as soon as they finish up, hopefully we can move right to production. The headers are being built around a 3.5 inch downpipe and so far, clearance is okay. Im going to move straight to a 4 bolt design next that relocates the turbo and does some cool stuff that I havent seen on any Buick headers before.

Im going to try to slide back down to the shop and snap a photo of the PS header tomorrow. They should be finished welding it.. they had it mostly tacked together today.

Thanks to Jason Cramer for getting the flanges out so quickly for us. The fab shop knocked out the passenger side header in less than a week once they had all the flanges, etc.
