We installed a new Champion intake last night. Today I set the tps and stuff, then fired it up. It ran good, and I filled the coolant up, and drove for awhile, stopping periodically to check the oil and coolant. All was well. Then I parked the car to cool, and looked everything over for leaks. The intake gasket is leaking just at the corner of the flat area at the front, where the block meets the head. WTF?! We used black rtv in the corners, and on the water and intake ports. Should not have leaked. Whats the deal? Now I gotta re do this, and don't know why its leaking anyway. What did we do wrong? Any tips? I drained the coolant down, just in case its leaking into the valley pan too. Just pisses me off. I used a Detroit gasket from Jack Cotton. Its red, supposed to be good gasket.

Did you use the front and rear cross gaskets that run between the heads at the front and rear of the block? I put some RTV in the block head corner before installing them, and then some more in the same corners after they're in.

Also along the top and bottom of each of those cross gaskets.

I never leave anything to chance. If it's the joining of two parts, it gets RTV'd ;)

45,000 miles and not a drop of fluid yet.

What did you torque the intake to?

It seems to me that there is some disagreement in the factory manuals about the intake torque

35 or 45....?

It might just want more torque.
