Yes its very possible! The 200 4R transmission was used in many vehicles. I bet there are torque converter that only stall at 1500 rpm. If people don't know what they're doing and put the wrong parts in then somebody else has to sort it out.

I've seen this just on the boards a couple of times already. I don't believe any other 200 TC stalls as high as a D5 from the General. And it's easy to have someone who doesn't know just throw in something they have lying around and Bob's your uncle until the next guy gets it.

I'm taking the car to work tomorrow to change the valve cover gaskets, and the valve springs since I'll have the access to them. I'll let you know what options I have on the scanmaster but I don't remember seeing BLM. And its brand new from kirban.

Supposedly the cat is gutted.

I'll check the TC tomorrow.

Thanks guys!

Your scanmaster will show BLMs and INTs. It's one of the first few clicks.

I'm sure Earl can explain it better but if you have a stock turbo wouldn't ANY converter (with a stall higher than stock) spool it quickly? So I think we will be back to identifying your turbo and/or exhaust leaks. What are your blm's?
I agree and also he has the wastegate rod screwed all the way in and only getting 11 psi of boost,I don't think that is a converter issue.

The BLM's will show on the scanmaster as BL. On my scanmaster it appears on the fifth push of the button but mine is old.

That would be the big crack in the drivers side header. (AKA 'the engine saver' in this case)

Well thats good to know. By the way when I power brake ot only goes up to 1600 rpm. So I need a "looser" converter?

Sounds like wrong TC. When you do change it make sure to back off on your adjustable wastegate rod! Lengthen it so you only need to pull it about and 1/8 of an inch to attach it to the wastegate flapper. Get things sorted out and then you can shorten it as needed.

What do the scanmaster readings look like when power braking?
Fat, lean, timing? All can contribute to poor perf. Add in the possibility of the wg starting an early opening, = :(

At what boost level are you at when seeing 1600?

Starts at 0 and climbs to 5 after a good 5 or 6 seconds.

on your scanmaster numbers... is you CC staying still, or going up incrementally? and if so, how many numbers is it skipping?

If it's standing pat, your 02 is shot

and, yes, it's time to start shopping for a converter.

OK, so good news and bad news. So the car is at my shop getting valve cover gaskets and valve springs. Somehow we dropped the 4th valve we were doing into the cylinder. My fault I forgot to spin the piston to TDC. So off the heads come. And during the process discover that the knock sensor connector is lying next to the sensor and not plugged in. I'm guessing this could account for a lot of lack of power. So head gaskets need to be ordered. I don't want $100 gaskets but is there any reasonable recommendations for a head gasket?
