I have an 87 Regal limited. Just had the motor rebuilt. After install mechanic cant get the car to make any spark. Hes stumped. cam sensor working Changed the crank sensor. Check engine light not coming on at all. Looking for some suggestios. trying to save myself some diagnostic bills. Im thinking its a ground some where or a fuseable link. Thanks

This is really a disturbing trend I'm seeing the last couple years! More and more of these are being sent to "mechanics" to get anything done to them! That alone is a bad trend, but they're also being sent to mechanics that seemingly are lost when things don't work perfectly right away. ??

No check engine light usually means the ECM is getting no power. What other things in/on the car are getting power or no power?

No ck engine light usually is a problem with the computer.

A good place to start would be the "no start" trouble tree located at vortexbuick .com. Very good fourth no spark issue. Good luck.

Double check the Positive battery cable - "dongle" lead - aka (Orange ECM wire) and its connection. (2 places)
One spot on the connector is a fusible link as well.
Near the battery
Electrical grease it as well.
Wiggle it and listen for the FP to kick on.

You have to look no further until you get a CEL

If it's for sure not the orange lead, then you have to go to the ECM itself and test probe - or swap
Also - check your fuses.

I'll take that brand new crank sensor - for $???
I think that was a snipe hunt.

I thought they were just "a Buick Regal"?
No great shakes :D

TurboDave - for routine stuff - like (not PowerMonster) brakes or suspension items - we know they are.
For powertain - oh no.
Hell - Buick dealers are clueless.

Could be a bad ignition module or ecm connection. Verify you are getting 12volts to the module. Also check voltage at the crank sensor. This happened to me. I had a new ignition module and new crank sensor. Module is suppose to send 6-9 volts to the crank sensor in order to trigger the coils. I only had 3vlts at the sensor. Replaced the ignition module again and it fired.
