Just got back from this beauitiful weekend and find a pool of oil all around the inside of my hood. D.S. and P.S. oil breathers are puffing........ By the way........I have a 17yr old son, he's gone right now. My keys are missing. Did he blow a head gasket? I'm going to do a comp. check tomorrow. I just can't seem to cool down right now!!! You guys have no idea how mad I am. The rest of my family won't even come near me cause THEY KNOW. My son is rollerblading with his girlfriend right now somewhere.
The first thing I did when I got home was pull her out of our pole barn for a quick wash & run. It sounds like it's running on 4 or 5 cylinders. This is my toy. It never was his. What kind of checks can I make on this tomorrow? Thanks guys, Dave

Well when mine were blowing out of the breathers i knew it was a head gasket or maybe a busted ring wrong. Found out that a ring land broke on my forged trw piston not good and just now getting the motor done.

Man im surprised you let your son drive the beast...nobody drives my GN but me!!!! Not even my wife...i dont have kids but if i did they wouldnt drive it either....im not even sure if id let'm look at it.:D

I also had the oil out of the breather problem...turned out to be a blown headgasket into the intake valley...simple fix!~

If you have oil around your breathers it means you have blown a headgasket????

I bet he won't think Ferris Bueller is so cool anymore after this. First, I'd make sure all the sparkplug wires were on good. If that isn't it, then pull plugs and see if they are wet with fuel. Pull the dipstick and look at the oil color; we all know what coolant in the oil looks like. Check all intercooler hoses to make sure they're on tight. If all that passes, then open the radiator cap and warm the engine up to operating temperature; look for bubbles (tiny ones, some flow will be normal but bubbles aren't normal). Take the oil filler cap off and put your hand over it, any air (significant) coming out of it when you rev the throttle a bit? If so, there is blow-by. Hold a dollar bill behind the tailpipe: if it sucks it in and out (I mean sucks it into the pipe not just blowing it around), burnt or non-sealing valve. Listen for vacuum leaks and watch your boost/vac gauge for a low or wavering reading (you can diagnose alot from a vacuum gauge). If none of this is bad in your opinion, then you have to move to a compression/leak-down test which requires specific tools. Good luck and fingers crossed!

BUBBLES!! In the Overflow tank after warm up, If none at all, go for an EASY pass 15-16lbs., check again right away, if theres bubbles (I'll bet you see perculation!) BINGO- Headgasket!!

I thought you were talking about the girlfriend...

Oh well, if your son trashed your car maybe you ought to do that to his girlfriend...

:D

Actually guys, he knows he's not allowed to drive this. He took my keys out of my dresser......Anyways, step by step to change headgaskets? please. Links?

Son's demise??

I can sympathize w/ you Dave.. My street rodder buddy and I just finished putting a new ft end under his 32 hi-boy.. Same thing happened. The kid took the car while he was away and wrecked it, tearing the entire ft axle assy out of the frame....

As for the gasket.. I'd be VERY leary of just replacing the gaskets. If it blew into the lifter galley and he continued running the s*%t out of it, as he MOST likely did, then there's a GOOD chance that there's bearing and cam damage.
Take a look at the rad H2O level... down?? Then it's most likely in the oil...
If you drain the oil and there's H2O in it, I'd NOT even entertain the idea of "gaskets in the car" repair. Set the engine out on a stand and do it right.. Save a crank and ALOT more excessively high blood pressure!!;)

As for the kid, well.. It'll take alot of time off his rollerblading to work that second job to pay for the repairs. RIGHT??..

Thats really sucks man! Back in the good old days.....if I drove the old mans car and broke it, I was the one who got to fix it. Dad wasnt very mechanically inclined, so I knew not to break dads cars if I didnt want to be wreching on them.
Good luck and take care.
